Matchmaking rocks, playlists rock, but adding a searchable list of custom games wouldn't take away from them either.
Well, it kinda would. The amount of players in matchmaking would be significantly less because a large chuck of ex-MM players would be in the customs area, probably extending the time that people wait for an MM game to be set up.
In my opinion, a more flexible matchmaking would go well in halo 3, a comprimise between mm and customs lists. A system similar to the current one would be inplace but most things would be chosen by the player to determine what matches would be searched for. The following basic criteria for an MM search could be changed through drop down boxes or some other selection medium:
* Number of players (2,4,8,16)
* Starting weapon (BR, SMG or Other)
* Team play (no, yes-2 or 4 teams)
* Map
* Rules (Slayer, CTF, Assult)
There are obviously ways which it could be improved but this would be the general idea.
"Official gametypes" could be chosen by bungie and added as an alternative to selcting each aspect of the MM search, where "assult BR" could be chosen, from a list made by bungie( similar to the gametypes in current h2 playlists) and each of the individual selections automatically changed to search for assult BR games.
Halo 3 MP also needs bots
With the much improved hardware of 360, this could be possible and add new dynamics to the game. But bungie would probably concentrate on someting else like a good lengthy campaign or finely tuned MP.
