Subject: If you knew it was their anniversary?

My future is certain, I will one day fly away. All because I am saved from the penalty of sin. I know he lives.

Today marks my fifth year as a member here on B.net. Of course, I have been coming here since 2005 (7 years), just never hit the sign up button until I got hooked reading some of the garbage on the forums. I was hoping that I would receive a message from someone at Bungie saying, "Thanks for killing time with us, and Happy Anniversary", or something like that.

I thought it would be a nice feature for the message system, even if it was an auto response. Getting a PM from someone on the inside would be pleasant touch.

So if you knew that it was member's anniversary, what well wishes would you send them. And please keep it clean, remember it is supposed to be a "special" day.

*EDIT*
Please take note that the post isn't about a site modification, I only wanted to add that I thought that a message from someone from Bungie would be a nice thing to open up and see a message in gold sitting in your inbox wishing you a Happy Anniversary.

I simply wanted to see what you would wish a fellow member if you knew it was their anniversary here on the site.

:)

I'd prefer not to get any message than to receive some automated message.

I think titles are implemented in a way that satisfies what issues you brought up... but interesting thought though.

Geepers guys,

Thanks for playing along, on your anniversary, I will wish you all well. And hope that you guys don't catch a "virus" from hanging around this cesspool of talent.

Just to clear up, wan't looking for an actual site modification, just trying to toot my own horn. And see how creative others could be with wishing somone else well.

Man, what does a fellow have to do to get a pat on the back around here. Other than leave. :)

Have you seen my mind anywhere? I seem to have lost it...

0x0 x0x 0x0 000 000 x0x 000
x0x 0x0 0x0 0xx 000 0x0 000
x0x x0x x00 0xx 0x0 x0x 0x0

I have seen you future

An auto message might come off as kind of cheesy (and seeing soul messages is always... exciting), but I guess there wouldn't be any harm in having auto messages telling members "happy birthday."

Also, happy anniversary BTW.

Per Audacia Ad Astra

Automated message = no effort made = less special.

Oh yeah, since somebody does not believe what YOU believe; that makes us vapid...
I cannot grasp that what you call "Something happened to nothing, and that nothing became something, and it was smaller than than a period."

"Happy birthday! You are half a decade old."
^^There is your message.

I got a message on my fifth birthday. I assumed everyone got one. I guess I must be special.

Go me.

  • 05.10.2012 8:27 AM PDT

Not if it's automated.

Thanks alot, on a day that I'm supposed to feel special, you pour salt on a wound.

Here is a funny one:
There once was a man that said, 'I always wanted to know what true happiness was, then I found B.net, and life hasn't been the same.'

Happy Fifth Anniversary, keep on postin.

I don't really see the point in an automated message, although I suppose the Disembodied Soul could do it.

  • 05.10.2012 9:50 AM PDT

I'm alright. To be honest I didn't even notice my 6th year going by until someone PMed me about it. Tisn't a big deal. It was nice that someone wished me well, but if it were automated or something? I wouldn't be capable of caring any less.

I'm going to be hitting 7 years this year! But no I don't want an auto response. Auto reasponse's are dumb I hate them!

I think that he is talking about potatoes, because it's an Irish thing.

Here is another one:

"Five year eh, that sure is a long time to be putting up with someone's filthy messages" Happy Anniversary, hang in there.

  • 05.10.2012 10:38 AM PDT

To be honest, an auto response, seems almost like a slap in the face.

When I grow up I want to be bitter and spiteful.

"i liked the reality where everything was on fire better"
-legato on remedial chaos theory

I do not feel such trivial things should be celebrated.

If someone wishes to commemorate the day and tie it to a reflection upon changes, experience, or suggested implementations, then all the better for the forums.

Bungie.me lists current account birthdays. Bulldawg, it looks like today is the account birthday of a lot of people, and you're pretty far down the list. It could be related.

Either way, it's not a big deal. The only good thing about your account birthday is that you get to post a thread about how you miss the good ol' days. Beyond that it's a tribute to how much time you wasted here.

That sure is nice, conceptually. But it's not actually the case. If you've ever been up on this site until 3AM mashing F5, or sitting at the computer for an hour drafting up a thread, or getting desperate when that thread slips off the front page (all of which most experienced members have done), and you somehow think that's fun, you probably need a mental health examination. I mean, yes, I've had a blast here, about 10-20% of the time. The problem is, you stop getting returns on your time spent here past a certain level, but no one really understands that.
