It really just depends if there's a discussion or not. It used to be that they were considered spam regardless, but we're a lot less nit-picky now.I find that even if there is discussion to be had in A vs B threads, it's largely completely useless and gets us nowhere. It's the equivalent of people throwing all of their metaphorical hats into the ring, and then nothing being actually accomplished either way. Situations like this are often such that the ideas of those participating are so steadfast and unchangeable that to discuss is merely to flaunt your opinion in the pitiful hopes that something you're saying will actually change the opinion of another person.
Sure, getting your opinion and the reason you have it out there is PART of a healthy discussion, but if neither side is going to budge and it turns into a match of who can present more evidence for their side so as to make the other person and their view appear (to some) to be "dumb" by comparison and no opinions or thoughts on the matter being changed, then the discussion is largely useless in retrospect.
I'd like, if I could, to misquote Deloris Jane Umbridge for a moment.
Discussion for the sake of discussion must discouraged. Let us not debate all that can be debated, not insist on ideas that don't need to be insisted upon, and prune practices that ought to be prohibited.
