Subject: A vs B Threads: Spam or Not Spam?

Wouldn't these types of recurring threads be considered as spam:

Ex1. Dr.Manhattan vs Anyone
Ex2. Goku vs Anything
Ex3.*item or organism with tremendous odds on it's side* vs B

If not, why?

You thought wrong my friend.

Anywho, I didn't mind them, but whenever one or two pop up people make a ton of parody ones so... it gets pretty irritating.

When they become repetitive, yes. But not 1 or 2.

Yes, The Flood could use this, but its place on Bungie.net is here.

On occasion, no, but the problem is they tend to spark parody threads in The Flood. So it only works if they are created in small numbers.

Not spam. They usually contain a quite a lot of discussion.

In an older version of the rules, I am almost certain they were explicitly proscribed as spam. Although the rules are simpler now, it may be a better idea to phrase the title differently to remove it from this stigma that has surrounded threads of that nature.

We should know better, because we are better.

No, they are not spam. If they are parody threads (Think WWII Russia vs X) they should be locked.

Hey now. There is only one official WWII Russia thread, and it got locked.

Anyways, it depends. If there becomes an inordinate number of them, then maybe. If the only point is to spam the forum, then of course.

But ban all of them outright? That would be futile.

Please stop complaining about the 'death of a loved one' it's my job. They probably deserved it anyways. Here's a warning, if you keep making pentagrams out of the neighbors livestock I will personally come to your house and kill everyone you love. Now leave me alone, I got to get back to work.

It really just depends if there's a discussion or not. It used to be that they were considered spam regardless, but we're a lot less nit-picky now.

I find that even if there is discussion to be had in A vs B threads, it's largely completely useless and gets us nowhere. It's the equivalent of people throwing all of their metaphorical hats into the ring, and then nothing being actually accomplished either way. Situations like this are often such that the ideas of those participating are so steadfast and unchangeable that to discuss is merely to flaunt your opinion in the pitiful hopes that something you're saying will actually change the opinion of another person.

Sure, getting your opinion and the reason you have it out there is PART of a healthy discussion, but if neither side is going to budge and it turns into a match of who can present more evidence for their side so as to make the other person and their view appear (to some) to be "dumb" by comparison and no opinions or thoughts on the matter being changed, then the discussion is largely useless in retrospect.

I'd like, if I could, to misquote Deloris Jane Umbridge for a moment.

Discussion for the sake of discussion must discouraged. Let us not debate all that can be debated, not insist on ideas that don't need to be insisted upon, and prune practices that ought to be prohibited.

I think it mainly depends on if it can have an actual discussion to it, and not something ridiculous. I also suppose it's spamming if it is just similar parodies posted with little to no discussion value all together.

So I suppose it just depends on the quantity of them, or if it's something trivial with really no discussion value.

It seems like asking "A versus B, Who would win and why?" would add some discussion to the question (The "Why?" being the big discussion maker).
