it doesn't make any sense the forerunners r all dead, it said so in the first halo and usualy dont make lyin games
Lets not get confused. I'm not sayin the Forerunners are still alive. Maybe someone activated the halos prematurely. I'm thinkin like a rogue monitor or something. Well not necessarily rogue but maybe overzealous in his programming.
E.g.
Programming: If the flood escapes, activate the halos
343 GS: Ok. Oh look! The Flood has escaped. Better activate them halos.
Forerunners: But we're not safe yet!
343 GS: But the flood will spread. Activating Halos.
You get the picture.
an installation monitor cannot activate the rings. you need a "reclaimer" to do that. 343 GS sais so at the beginning of "two betrayals"
your theory isn't the worst that i've heard, but i just want to point out a couple things. the teleportation system that is used buy 343GS utilizes a special system withing the halo ring, meaning he could no teleport himself off. cortana explains it at the end of two betrayals right before she teleports cheif to truth and reconcilliation. not to say that the forerunners aren't capable of building something with a little more juice but i think that they would have been too busy handling the flood. 343GS sais that the rings were built as a last resort weapon against the flood, specifically designed to combat them. when building something like that your not really putting much R&D into other projects that may seem irrelevant. from what i have grasped of the forerunners, they are not the type of race that was out for themeselves, they were worried about the rest of the galaxy and preventing the flood from spreading. again, not criticizing you, just bringing up some counter points.
