Attention Underground: A message from your neighborhood MakaVeli4Life1
Lately I’ve been acting as a spectator with all of the news, screens, videos, etc., and this is getting to be laughably ridiculous. There are some of you in here who think that you somehow have “position” or “rank”, to attempt to flame people. A lot of this comes from a person’s post; and in these posts, there may be something that has been discussed already, or maybe a topic that is long dead. This only applies to a few instances, and fortunately is not something that happens a whole lot
Either way, I have a message – a strong message – that I felt needed to be delivered to these people:
Grow the hell up.
What a lot of you don’t understand is that, in the next few months, and especially as Halo 2 nears, Bungie.net will be flooded with new people, some young people, but a lot of them much older. Bungie made this site for the huge rush that is going to come as a result of Halo 2 being released, and through the extensive and widespread advertising that they plan on for the game. This game is going to be huge, and with that, comes another swarm of people; how many of you were Bungie fans before Halo? Not many. Now among those of you who were, do you remember the amount of new people that came as a result of the Xbox and Halo?
Here’s something to consider: Triple that amount of people you saw come in when Master Chief graced our television sets. Halo 2 is going to be world-wide, huge, in hundreds of countries. MS and Bungie are going all out to ensure that the result is nothing less.
You’re going to have completely new people coming to Bungie.net, and more specifically, the Underground. Now imagine for a brief moment that you are one of these new people. You get your membership, link your Gamertag, and you stumble upon Bungie’s own forum, in hopes to talk about this Halo 2 game that is going to be released. “I heard it’s going to revolutionize gaming as we know it”, you might say.
Now imagine you make your first post. You never knew, or cared too much, about Halo on the Xbox, but you believe the hype and see the screens, and you just know Halo 2 is going to be something special. Now you’ve made the post, probably talking about how excited you are for Halo 2, or maybe it’s something that you – yourself – just found out.
Meanwhile, us, as Halo Smartsmen (completely made-up word), see this post. What are we going to say? Are we going to “flame” him? Are we going to “set him straight”? Just for asking a question about the game he loves, or will probably be a big-time fan of?
Why in the hell would you say something that could totally, in some ways, “scare” him off? Bungie is a company that cares tremendously about their fan base. And while it goes without saying it, their success depends on us as the fans, to buy their games. But they don’t cloud themselves in mystery like any other company you know of. No, Bungie are the same as you and I, always looking for a great experience. They haven’t lost touch with their roots in any way. Think of the situation through the eyes of a professional athlete. You just got into the NBA, and you begin to be -blam!-y because you are “the next Jordan” or whatever. Most would develop huge heads about their success.
In the gaming world, Bungie has done just this, reached the top of the gaming “game”. They stand alone on top of the mountain with what they can do with Halo 2, and there is not one other game that I have ever seen create so much buzz. What does Bungie do? Remain loyal and level-headed, that’s what.
So the message is simple: do unto others as others would do unto you. Why not? Let’s all enjoy this time while we can, because whether you know it or not, the time right now is the best part of this whole experience. It’s the anticipation for November 9th. When that day comes, no doubt, you’ll be happy as hell, but the time now with the rare screenshots and information, is the best part by far. It’s the mystery of the game that sparks topics like “Do you think” or “How many of you”. There is nothing like this time.
That’s it, I hope some of you look at this, as I’m writing it as objective as I can, and think “OK, let’s make this whole experience fun,” and just help someone out if they need it. BillyBob (example of a new member) didn’t know that his topic had already been talked about. Let’s show him what a real Halo fan looks like, rather than coming off as a jerk in the process. Let’s give the help he needs, and flaunt our Halo knowledge, heh...
I don’t even wanna talk about what the Xbox.com forums are like…:)
Hell mother-blam!- Yeah!
