If you're passionate about the thing you're talking about, I'll always lend an ear.
None I'm sick of the remakes that are put in because they are easy to produce in contrast to being original and creating something new. People will always want remakes of maps in their DLC till its literally done to death. This COD formula is a sure money maker, but a creativity killer.
The whole aniversary map stuff that 343i pulled and marketed as "a whole new Halo:Reach experience" was just so meh. That extended $20 worth of content being such a bargain to Halo:CEA... I got the anneversary map packs for free because my friend didn't want it and I still felt disappointed. Not because of the quality of the remake, but because of the lack of actual innovation that went towards the DLC. [OMG so they turned bloom off!] That's one reason why I left Reach's multiplayer as well. DLC turns the online population into the have's and the have nots. Only the have's being supported. Leaving people more likely to invest their time only in one of two series to get the full experience. But that's besides the point of Map remakes.
Yes, it gives newcomers a taste of what they missed out and old-time fans nostalgic memorys. But if it's a new game, I expect new content in multiplayer or DLC. I'm not saying don't do map remakes, but just don't make them so goddamn everywhere and charge us the standard price as a new map. Adding to this, certain maps only work well in certain games, when a core aspect is changed in the newer game, sometimes the older map doesn't accomdate to these changes. The solution for developers seems to be "oh we'll just add more space and give it extra areas". -_-' NOOOO!
This particular thread is only a recent thing though [I'm speaking about this specific model, I'm aware remakes have been done on console and PC long before] and I'm not just talking just about Halo. Gears, COD and almost every other multiplayer games are jumping on this hype. The industy is becoming more stale and cash grabbing with every new triple AAA title coming out. For every one remake they do, that's one potentially successful and thought out new map gone. Even though I would love to support the company, I hate feeding into the model that these companies borrow off each other. We will most likely see a Halo 1,2, 3 or Reach inspired/remake map though. It's just a question of how many?
