Brown is a useful option when pink is unavailable.

Or when red is present.

To the person (idiot) who was trying to compare mixing light to mixing paint.

Try mixing all the colours you own together, you get brown.

Then consider white light has every colour in it. idiots

You know what I want to see, an elite with the new graphics or how about all the characters from Halo2, (so as not to reveal new characters).

OK, yes, it is very true that I'm a dumb ass. I'm not denying that. However, isn't the whole point of a beta to increase the amount of users until you get someone dumb enough to try something you haven't anticipated.

i wouldnt mind brown armor anyways

can you explain to me why then the top of MC's helmet is the same color as the rest of his body, because the top of his helmet obviouly can't be affected by the sand reflecting on it becuase well its on the top of his head and all thats should reflect on it is the blue sky
in this picture from halo3 screen shots

Wow! Someone on these forums showed an ounce of intelligence!

Indeed. It makes sense and I guess some people around he can to believe that something is the way they want it to be so much that they deny the possibility of something else being the cause it.

You are very wrong on that one. It is black that has every color in it which is why it collects heat when in the sun. An example would be how a car painted a darker color gets hotter then a car that is white or a lighter color.

if by in it you mean absorbed in it then your right but white is the presence of all colors where as black is the absence of all of them, white reflects them all to your eye, black prevents you from seeing any light

I think it would be pretty cool to able to choose the color you want to play as in campaign, like if I wanted to be white that is the color Masterchief would be in campaign and in the cut scenes.

Yeah. I ment it to come out more like the fact that white has none of the colors in it so it reflects them all back at you when black has them all so it does not reflect them back. Just as something blue will reflect the colors it does not have in it back at you and so on.

Your theory on radiance is only part of the equation. You also have to consider that MC has been getting the crap kicked out of him as well.

Besides Bungie hasnt released whether or not the color of MC armor is UV resistant, which could also be a possibility. Did MC have a clear coat applied? Is the armor made out of some color-infused futuristic alloy? No one knows. Hopefully Halo 3 will answer these questions.

Your all right.......... and wrong.

In an additive color model, all colors produce white. In a subtractive color model, all colors produce black.

Addititive color model is most likely the case here since the colors are being shown on some sort of monitor or TV, then all colors produce white.

If you print the pictures out, then it transfers to the subtractive color model and all colors produce black.

Good point, I did know there was an additive color model or a subtractive color model.

to the anyone who belives the reflecting sand is the reason for his brown appearence some one please tell me why the top of MC's head is still brown when the sand doesnt reflect off of surfaces not in its view. the point being how can the sand reflect off the top of his helemet to make it appear brown when you cant draw a straight line from the top of his head to the sand (light travels in straight lines, normaly)

and to the color dispute, if your see a color it is in all cases only the light said object reflects, if it is white it reflects all color, or white light if it is black it reflects no light if it is blue it reflects only blue, all other colors are all absorbed.

Its true. The reflection gives the Master Chief a brownish/gold color. Under a different surround ...Lets say in a Covenant cruiser , the MC would probably look more darker .

Earth is very large and that sand goes out for MILES, suriously its all about the radience off the sand, and the reflectiveness of the cheif's armor. His armor is still that olive green that were familiar with, but due to the pre-computed radience his armor appears to be more gold.

here is another axample, if you get a huge peice of brightly colored construction paper, and bring it outside during a clear day, and stand on it. your whole body will have a tint same as the colored paper. Try it, you'll see, if you have a peice of paper big enough, it may go up past your head. Its all about the reflection of the sun.

I thought that in Halo:Combat Evolved the Master Chief was the color green] then in Halo 2 the Master Chief was sage(dark green) and now in Halo 3 he is still sage but the sun reflecting off of the ground makes him look to have tan/brown armor.

Have you never seen what happens when two lights with colour filters converge? Its pretty similar to paint, I can tell you now. White light is pretty much the only difference.

So, who was saying idiot again?

Besides all this, and back to the main topic, when a green car drives through the desert, does it change colour like the MC has in the trailer?

I would say a car was probably shinier than the MC anyway, seeing as he'd probably want to limit how easy it is to see him. Therefore, unless it's mud and/or sand, which I seriously doubt as he'd change colour from cutscene to cutscene as you (the player) cannot see his colour when playing, then his armour has changed colour.
