Halo: Reach is the beginning of a new age for gaming.
It proves that developers can get away with punishing their players instead of fixing their game....and yet the fanboys will still sing praises to them.

-blam!- all of you fanboys!

And what do comeptitives need?

They need everyone to play the game exactly like them, so that they can properly compare their stats to yours and gloat about it to you.

Hence the reason Customs was given the shaft. Because if the mass majority of players was given the chance to define what they are playing, it wouldn't create an environment in which stats could be properly compared.

Why are 100,000s of players being funneled into a small handful of playlists? So that everyone is basically being forced to play the same -blam!-... So that stats can be compared.

Arrogant hyperbolic exclamations of woe? Seems like a normal day for Halo/Bungie.net.

It's okay

Everyone knows you're terrible

no need to try justifying it

Nope. SouthPole isn't a person. He's the avatar of the force of tryhards everywhere. He stalks the web looking for retards to set straight. He can not be stopped by mere bans or thread locks for he shall rise anew.

An environment which is both fun and competitive. H3 had everything we needed. Casuals had their space, we had ours.

You're not being forced to play anything. You want to play swat, you go to swat. You want to play team objective, you play team objective.

It's not that -blam!- hard. If you want something stupid with hammers and 300% speed, play customs with your friends.

If you want to play something specific...I'm limited to hoping I have enough friends online..... right.

It no way does my idea of customs gaming involve hammers and 300% speed.

It involves a basic CTF game with a few tweaks to what vehicles spawn in the map.

Now why is customs limited to friends only?

Because competitive players all assume that when a casual wants to play a custom game, it'll be something stupid revolving around 300% speed and hammers. And thus they think randoms would instantly leave games like that (Your right) thus making customs unneccesary for access to the vast majority of players.

If you want to play something specific, you need to find other people who would also like to play it.

The rest of the world would still like to be playing the actual game.

And this is all just a discussion about how MM should be setup. Competitive and casual players aren't even relevant.

Who's making the assumption?

Biggest assumption in the world right here...

I only EVER want to play customs with just the people on my friends list.

AS if it never occured to people like you that maybe I want to play WITH my friends....AGAINST OTHER PEOPLE!

But nope, because of competitive trash like you. Everyone was pretty much forced to use matchmaking if they wanted actuall opponents to play agaisnt besides the ones on their friends list.

Which means you have to use matchmaking first.
Then you have to spam invites.
Then you have to hope people answer.
Then you have to hope the people that did answer will actually want to play once they see the rules of the game.
etc.
etc.

Then ask 343 for a customs search feature.

Yes it was. And I told you the reason why.

Because Matchmaking creates an environment for comparing stats with other people. Customs does not.

global warming isn't proven and won't be - it's more of a political play for funding for "research"

If you want to blame anyone, blame Bungie for making that design choice when they laid the groundwork of online console games with Halo 2.

Again, create a custom game search. The rest of the world will continue to play the actual game.

you can easily look off of peoples friends lists to invite people. You can join a private group with like minded people and ask if they want to play.

Custom games have nothing to do with competitive players though. They are custom because ANYONE can make settings they find fun. I dont find grifball(custom settings) fun, but many people do so they implemented it into MM.

I do blame Bungie... I do.

But I came to the realization that it's not Bungies fault.

It is yours.

That's not what he's saying.

He's saying Bungie made customs Friends list only since Halo 2 because of competitive players destroying randoms during the development of the online systems of Halo 2.

If that makes any sense then you're as retarded as E0S

Also, learn to read. Because if that's your interpretation of what I've been saying.. You're off target.

It's as simple as this.

Ohai, I'm Loscocco (pronounced Loss-cocoa). I'm a college student (computer science major), 3D animator, and long-time Halo player.

Damnit E0S, why do most people like you (like 90% of Waypoint forums) come up with incredibly confident and ridiculous answers and reasons to why things exist in the state that they do. (ex: "omg, you don't hate the game, you're just nostalgic." Shut up...it isn't hard to understand why mechanics of the present games are absurd to people that like the game to be competitive if they are flipping coins for kills...)

Competitive players need everyone to play the game like them? NO... They don't derive satisfaction from knowing that no one is happy. Unfortunately, every idiotic mechanic implemented that goes against competitive play can't be toggled so everyone gets what they want. Once again, this fits your unimaginably ignorant and egocentric logic of "competitives are selfish, thats why people like me should get absolutely everything we want."

Customs were given the shaft? No, you just had an incredibly specific idea and are trying to put the blame on specific people because it wasn't implemented. Bungie never even had the thought in their head that the game should have these features, yet you point fingers at competitive players like Bungie was having a moral dilema inside and competitives pushed them over the edge to nuke the idea. A 7000 ft godzilla didn't run through New Alexandria after being awakened by a suave man named Dave in the story; this is all the casual's faults because they didn't think it would be fun enough...

You still making an ass of yourself on this thread?

  • 05.14.2012 1:32 PM PDT

A competitive players main goal is to win.
A casuals main goal is to have fun regardless of whether that results in a win or loss.
It has nothing to do with individual skill or knowledge, it has to do with the reason you play.
