Still using a pump-action shotgun over 500 years in the future I see.
omg not realistic stop game production plz
I apologise if this discussion has been brought up before, but I have started my trek into the world of Marathon recently by downloading and playing the first Marathon game. Being a slice of Bungie's past, it got me thinking about the future. This isn't going to be some theory that has wheelbarrows of goodness like Cortana 5's thread!
As I say, I've had my first foray into the Marathon Universe recently by downloading Aleph One. It's an oddly gripping game with a fair chunk of fiction so far, and it doesn't feel dated which is really strange.
Anyway, onto the point. I was reading up and discovering more about Marathon online, particularly Marathon Infinity (I wasn't too bothered by the idea of spoilers). The plot to Infinity is fairly complex, I've learned from other people's statements; and one thing that did trigger my attention was that veterans of the game said that Infinity hints at the Security Officer being "a reality-hopping manifestation of destiny".
Now that's interesting; the tagline for Bungie's next project is "Destiny". Whilst the S.O being referred to as "destiny" is only word of mouth between long-time veterans of Marathon, it is a possible link. Add to that the tagline "See you Starside", a phrase uttered be Marathon crew in Marathon: Durandal if memory serves me correctly, is a phrase seen at the end of Halo: Reach, the last step from Halo into their future, but also we see a somewhat similar phrase "Per Audacia Ad Astra", a phrase I'm sure we're all familiar with, meaning "boldly going into space", alluding to See You Starside again.
To me it just feels like we've been dropped several hints as to the idea of Marathon being the future IP; all these themes of space-faring and destiny feels like some kind of continuation of the Marathon arc. I'm hoping some die-hard Marathon fans can help in either supporting or (constructively) criticising these thoughts!
