In my 30+ forgetfulness, I actually turned to the interwebs for help in my quest for CEA achievement completion. (Yes, is shameful, I know) But...the vids showed things I wasn't even aware of, despite my preposterous amounts of CE-ing. 1 - "Looking up" (forward) means that the warthog won't tip over during [most] falls. 2 - Grenade jumping isn't just for Halo-2. It is achievable in CE, particularly in the Library, where there are conveniently placed, compatible structures. 3 - There's a side way to get to the fighter that avoids Flood at the end. I literally thought I knew every inch of every map and everything that was possible in the game. Ten years of gaming and I'm just now getting this....Man, say that about any other game...

Grenade jumping (and similar tricks) is both possible and practical, in most FPS games that have grenades.

I mean, heck, people in Halo 1 have done this.

That's not shameful. What's shameful is that you're going to play by their rules. I'm sorry if I came off as rude, but some of the achievements are ridiculous:

-no picking up health packs yet if you walk over them, there's no way to avoid it
-no taking health damage. It's possible yet as absurd as taking no shield damage. I appreciate that the required difficulty is Heroic but still, it's annoying
-don't kill any Grunts. The only feasible way to do it on Solo is to bring a Banshee into the room and get on the upper ledge, which is difficult since the doors don't open unless you get out of it. You can also try grenade jumping but there's a Grunt on the left side of the room...
-kill 100 infection forms. I can understand killing 50 combat forms but this doesn't encourage you to seek out the enemy. It can easily be abused and it's unnecessarily time consuming

Though I have gripes with other achievements, they're (barely) in the realm of reasonable.

Imo, this is a more worthwhile challenge:

Bringing a Goldie down from the twin bridges area on Two Betrayals on Heroic or higher and bringing him to this area, enticing him into fighting the Flood and making sure he survives the fight.

Save and quit, revert, etc. would be allowed and the fun of bringing him along is definitely worth it. Some of the hardest Flood encounters on Two Betrayals can be easy with the help of this Goldie. You can mess with him at the elevator and disarm him at a later point.

Here's some Two Betrayals strategies that could aid in the effort:

In the end, this "achievement" promotes massive replayability. Nothing more satisfying killing the Goldie after bringing him to the end.

I have always disliked achievements. They often don't encourage replayability. And often, one will want to get it over with as quickly as possible.

Plus, who the hell needs gamerscore? Sure, if one has Xbox Live Gold, showing off to friends can be exciting. But what about those who don't? The only reason I even bothered getting achievements in H3 was for the armor unlocks. I've done things in H3 that have far more replayability than getting a few kills with the missile pod, needler, etc. For example, I've done subsequent assassinations in H3's campaign, the closest to what I did in CE's Silent Cartographer and AotCR. And let's not forget about the legendary trickers, like in the T2T video.

It's really pathetic when the remake of the game that started it all dies down within a year and you see those trickers playing the original. Heck even I'd be playing the original if I could.

Unlocks do make achievements cooler, but I do it for personal reasons. I like seeing it go up. Its like getting a high score in Pac-man or Donkey Kong. For example, if a came comes out on PS3 and Xbox. I get it on Xbox to unlock achievements.

I dont like the trophy system on PS3. Getting a collection is not the same as continuous score.

I just wish it was possible to delete an entire game's achievements or individual achievements. There are some achievements that I got in my early gaming days that could have been acquired in more creative ways (i.e. needler kill achievement in H3 and ODST).

Hey Sliding ! Man, I thought I was pretty committed to the game before I saw some of the videos that are out there. Sheesh. Achievements are a double-edged sword. On the one hand, they encourage more gameplay, but, it's only for/under certain parameters. Love for the game is gone, and getting 10 Gamerscore is what motivates. It's pretty meaningless unto itself, but, there's a certain point of pride you can get. As a launch guy, I just wanted to land all of CEA's. (Am an achievement hound, not an achievement whore - a whore will buy a game just for the easy achievements) It was pretty fun and cool to rethink the game I've played out the yang to get some of them. The no-Grunt kill and "Leave it..." achievements were done by dropping down the left side of the control center. Eliminating Grunts without killing them was done by ducking and maneuvering to get them hit by friendly fire. Was pleasantly surprised to hear new (to me) dialogue: "Sorry." "Wasn't me." Pretty fun thing once you get past the blammy stages of rushing past the initials.

Are there any achievements that require you to play the Reach maps?

Nope. Every achievement is self contained for us campaign purists. But there is a single firefight Reach map that comes with it. (Probably doubles as a versus map as well...unsure; I don't do live.) Was really cool to play through all that stuff and have a few new parameters put onto it. It really did make me rethink and readdress some of the old ways. CEA is totally worth it if you love the game.

Well...EB has a sale on right now for 50% off recycled games. If they have it, I'll try and pick it up. Or Crysis, or both.

EDIT: Promo code is only 10% off plus 10% edge discount. Game is still at $40, -blam!- that.

"Recycled"...heh. That's good. Well, whenever the blammers get the blamming price right, do get it. The achievements are pretty creative - not what I'd expected. Also, the terminals are canon-worthy snippets of Sparky's experience. And the Keyes one almost made me have a panic attack. It's jacked up. Haven't felt that uncomfortable in a game since The Darkness. Yikes.
