Why are the Halo Rings designed to be ecosystems if their primary function is to simply quarentine the flood and kill all sentient life?

It doesnt make sense that these eco-systems would just manifest of the time span, they had to have been designed that way. Cortana even seems to mention such a thing in the original Halo. Does this mean that perhaps they are designed as a refuge? Perhaps the ring worlds are a safe haven...and that is why the Flood were able to survive.

Perhaps the Ark and the Halo Rings house DNA and rebuild life on other worlds. Granted, their were bird like creatures on Delta Halo.

Idk, post your own ideas...i cant really think of any good ones...

yeah this is old and is answered in the first Halo..
They were fortress worlds, outposts for the forunners, and the flood were there to study.

-Its a MG42!
-My favorite color is bubble shield

they had to keep some kind of eco system, since if it wasn't
1-how would we have levels to play
2-more serious, you activate it on the ring, so it would be stupid to have it as a giant moon basically, as you will need to go on it to study

The Rings probobly harness energry from the plants, animals etc. when the ring is activated. Or the rings could have a greater purpose than to kill all sentient life. For all you know, the Flood could be an energy source..

Meow?

Well, If they were built as fortress worlds...why dont they have defenses? I think cortana could have made a mistake [its not the first time] After all, The control room appears to be the only really defensive looking structure, yet it has little defense. The sentinels are the only defenses outside Sentinel wall. Why would such areas exist such as the place of Regret's keeping. It was out of reverance and were older structures. I cant find a reason as for why the place would look like it did.

Granted, I understand i was a game, but im attempting to form a theory on why the Forerunner would develope ecosystems. Perhaps they studied wildlife, or maybe they themselves were a form of Covenant among races who all prefered different habitats.
Or perhaps the rings are built as ecosystems because they are safe havens from the ring radius. If the Rings destroy the hosts of the Flood, it would explain why Gravermind survived. He must be composed of Forerunner corpses if he has existed so long. Idk...
