ok I've read fall of reach, the flood and first strike and I'm reading ghosts of onyx now but I want to try and read halo cryptum and halo grasslands before halo 4 comes out so does anyone know where they fit in?

Cryptum: Little over 100,000 years before the trilogy.
Glasslands: Suppose between January-March 2553 as the memorial takes place near the end of the book.

Cryptum takes place way before all the other Halo books; Glasslands takes place after Ghosts of Onyx.

"I may not be perfect, but always been true."

You should read them in this order.

-Cryptum
-Primordium
-Third Forerunner book yet to be released
-Contact Harvest
-Cole Protocol
-The Fall of Reach
-The Flood
-First Strike
-Ghosts of Onyx
-Glasslands
-The Thursday War (yet to be released)

seems like you know a lot about the books, but ive yet to finish the fall of reach. do you think you could tell me if its possible some of the halo:legends stories are real? to me, they seem overexagerated, and i dont think theyre real. also, are the events in Evolutions (the one with short stories) real, too? i dont want to waste any time reading such a large book that wouldnt contribute to the universe. atleast until ive finished all the others, of course. thank you.

They are both canon (except for the Episode "Odd One Out" that is just a satire towards Dragon Ball Z or Anime in general.

Please don't send me PMs about your Bungie group. I don't care.

I hear you BTW, Kat is the worst AI I have ever had in my turret. The Elite who hi-jacked her was better!

You should read them in this order.

-Cryptum
-Primordium
-Third Forerunner book yet to be released

-Contact Harvest
-Cole Protocol
-The Fall of Reach
-The Flood
-First Strike
-Ghosts of Onyx
-Glasslands
-The Thursday War (yet to be released)

The Forerunner trilogy can be read before or after the rest of the books. All they are are back story for the rest of the Halo-verse.

I feel it would be more exciting to read them like this.

-Contact Harvest
-Cole Protocol
-The Fall of Reach
-The Flood
-First Strike
-Ghosts of Onyx
-Glasslands
-The Thursday War (yet to be released)
-Cryptum
-Primordium
-Silentium

Builds up the original Halo's story before taking you back in time, making you rethink the entire Halo story.

Agreed. You'll want to build up your knowledge of the 'current' Halo story with the earlier novels and when that's done read the Forerunner Trilogy.

Not to mention after reading the Forerunner Saga you won't feel as "enthralled" as you would if you read them before all the other books. The rest of the books will feel dull in comparison.

You could throw in Evolutions as well, but the stories are mainly side stories.

Most of those were already adapted into Comic movies and Halo Legends stories weren't they? I'd just watch those.

Agreed. I feel that the other novels set the precedent of the quality to expect and then you get to the Forerunner Saga and get blown away with the awesomeness in scenes like the battle of the Capitol.

This man, this man right here put it so eloquently that I actually cancelled my own 2000+ word long post.
/slow clap for respect

:)
The person who said participating is important, not winning, obviously never won anything.

Cryptum is a the start of the Halo canon when it comes to novels, and Glasslands is at the end of it during 2553, (that is until The Thursday War comes out) as my simply put yet extremely helpful representation shows you, with each novel represented by each circle.

@OP -- Let's clear one thing up right now. It's Glasslands, not Grasslands. Plasma doesn't turn a planet into fields of green.

I haven't read Glasslands, The Thursday War, Primordium or Silentium yet, but apart from that, this was the exact order I read the books in and I think it was the best way to go.
