There is a thin line between insanity and genius, i would put myself right in the middle and i enjoy every second of it.

What is it like when an AI dies? It's already been anounced by 343 that Cortana's 7 year limit will play into the story and I was wondering what happens. Does she have an automatic shut down to make sure she does no harm? If not, then i believe it will be likely she will find some forrunner tech to control and become John's enemy by the end of the trilogy.

Any guesses or answers? I have never read the books so I dont know if it has been put into detail before.

"Don't mistake your rank and number for superiority.
The oldest child may learn from the youngest."

Well, look at what 343 GS, Mendicant Bias, and the human AIs Sif and Mack did. They just kind of went crazy, equivalent to a senile person perhaps.

As for the rampancy span, it appears to be indefinite, or at least a really long time. It took a fragmented Mendicant 100,000 years to return to normalcy, and that's with a Forerunner grade AI.

I would prefer that John and Cortana become closer in the new trilogy, much less become enemies.

How would that work?
Cortana has a sudden moment of clarity moments before she dies, and tells the chief something emotional/ important?

I hope not. The last thing I wanna do is kill the Navi to my Hero of Time.

If i woke up looking like that, i would just run to the nearest living thing, and kill it.

I would relish the opportunity.

"Hello? Listen! Listen! Listen! Hello? Listen!"

"Wait. Chief hold on. Hang on a second. Chief! Chief! Chief! This cave is not a natural formation."

Blessings upon you.

One the source of the parasitic, symbiotic hive mind, is identified and defeated the solution for its removal is used to give Cortana a physical body, something discovered by chief and cortana mid game, to be the cure for rampancy.

Who's to say that Mendicant wasn't in stasis or completing repair cycles for that intervening 100,000 year period?

It was pretty clear that once he discovered Humans he tried to follow existing protocols.

Oh yeah, since somebody does not believe what YOU believe; that makes us vapid...
I cannot grasp that what you call "Something happened to nothing, and that nothing became something, and it was smaller than than a period."

Yeah, I don't like the idea of killing Cortana.
Either she will die D;, or she will gain that metastability trait and become normal.

Yea, I hope 343i makes a good reason for whatever fate she has.

"The" Crazier one...

This one hopes that the flash cloned Hasley AI will be all right. The Crazier one had enough loneliness without the nice voice in my head in the third adventure. She may gain metastability, or through out the game you may have to carry out side missions of sort to keep her Artificial Sanity in check. The Crazier One simply does not wish to loose the comforting voice in his head...

The Game Informer article on Halo 4 said Cortana's interaction with the Gravemind, as well as Forerunner AI could be the key to either her demise or her survival. I'm just hoping Cortana makes it through the new trilogy with her sanity intact.

They didn't trust us to figure that out on our own? Whether it helps or hurts her it would be pretty difficult to just ignore such significant experiences. Even since Halo 4 was first announced people were already broaching the question of Cortana's mental state.

Frank O'Connor did directly state that we would see greater development of the relationship between Chief and Cortana in Halo 4. I hope that means they continue to strengthen their bond by working together to overcome whatever emotional trials 343 has planned (which should probably include Cortana's mental deterioration).

I think in some of the novels it says that A.I. just 'die' at seven years, they must just stop working. But in other books it says that they get shut down by humans at seven years because if not they will go rampant.

I guess it's probably that they either die because they cannot contain the mass of information they hold as an AI. It would be a sort of overload. And I think that goes for most AI, and many of them go rampant before they actually die. However, I think Cortana is a special case. Firstly because she was the best UNSC AI created, and secondly because of all this Forerunner stuff she's had to handle since she entered the first Control Room. Also I think seven years is an approximate number.
