Subject: Community Write Along.....

There may not be a "I" in team, but there is a "I" in Win.

I feel like this story wasn't taken seriously. If I was the only one who wrote something assuming cool about a real life possible situation then the joke's on me, but I did feel like all the finalists were jokes. I'm not mad as I did laugh at these, but I saw quite a few serious ones and was wondering why none of them were picked? Not a big deal just a pondering a simple question....

Questions lead to learning, learning leads to kowledge, knowledge leads to understanding, understanding leads to peace.

"I would kill to get a killionaire... 10 times... digitally."

I feel DeeJ wasn't clear enough in his guidelines as to what should be written. It was just to broad. The idea overall though was a complete win.

Key

What I'm getting from this is that the OP agrees I should have been nominated. I agree with him.

Also, I feel like the point of a writing challenge is to pick winners based on their writing abilities and how they demonstrated them. Just as the point of an illustration challenge is to accurately illustrate the prompt or to just demonstrate your drawing abilities better than all the rest.

Picking things because they're funny and not because they fit the bill of what's being asked for is part of the reason I only skim the mailsack now a days.

I'm not complaining. Even if all of the finalists seem to be people who went the comedic route, the contest was fun, and that's all we can really ask for.

This thread would have appealed to me more if it was written with crayons.

I broke one of the cords for my X11s because I couldn't get past the final American course in Doritos Crash Course.

I also feel my submission was also quite pretentious, not in the spirit in which it was intended.

I'm not complaining, I just was thinking maybe DeeJ coulda done two of them, one for serious ones and the other for the jokes? Idk agree with the fact that the idea was too broad.

Maybe, but I'm just glad that we had a contest that everyone would be able to participate in, so I won't start a fuss over who the finalists are.

  • 05.16.2012 8:28 PM PDT

I'm sure he'll read such concerns and take them into account. Take solace in the fact that the idea itself is brilliant, and hopefully he'll do more of ones like this in the future.

Please stop complaining about the 'death of a loved one' it's my job. They probably deserved it anyways. Here's a warning, if you keep making pentagrams out of the neighbors livestock I will personally come to your house and kill everyone you love. Now leave me alone, I got to get back to work.

Your not pondering a simple question, your crying because you didn't get in.

I came for Halo, but I heard the Tru7h, fought thru Carnage, and stayed for Bungie.

DeeJ closed the submission thread early. I wasn't able to submit my short about a team of freedom fighters in the Spanish Civil War trying to fend off the fascists. I WILL NEVER FORGET THIS SLIGHT.

You imply a level of control over Halo: Reach matchmaking that we no longer have. Or, in your vernacular, it isn't our shiznit anymore.

You're forgetting about one thing, creativity. Have you ever read a story or seen a movie that was predictable and/or had a plot that you have seen before? Those stories or movies are not as successful as their competitors' because they lack creativity. If you ever go to an art show you will see what I mean. I went to one last summer and saw one of the most realistic and expertly painted pictures I have ever seen. All jokes aside, the painting was a crumpled up brown paper bag on a granite kitchen counter. The painting made it to the top 10 pieces at the show but lost to a pencil drawing of an older father flying kites with his young child. Any type of art, movies, drawings, stories, video games, all need creativity to stand out from the rest.

DeeJ and the Bungie employees decide what questions to answer for the Mailsacks based on their uniqueness and ability their ability to give an interesting answer to them. The candidates for the writing and illustrative challenges are not based on solely on the skill of the writer or illustrator, the pieces' creativity and lulz are a very large part of the decision.

Just an Average Joe...

Someone actually a made a thread complaining about this!? Are you out of your mind? It was a silly contest for fun, and obviously now a few people emotions were hurt because they weren't picked for something so completely and utterly pointless in the grand scale of things.

Christ, some people feel so entitled and deserving of things. Grow up.

I'm with you bro. I too cannot believe that someone actually made a thread about it.

I think the term "sore loser" comes to mind. He didn't get into the final vote and decided to complain about it.

OP, the world doesn't revolve around you.

Easy too talk when you got in bud, this is the first one I've ever done. I was ASKING a QUESTION. You kids calling me a sore loser or mad because I didn't get in. I didn't realize that it was "wrong" to ASK a QUESTION. Time to head back to the flood, at least their POLITE.

Very true, didn't think about that. At least a couple people can give straight answers.

I wasnt going to comment since you're obviously slightly upset over the matter and I don't want to encourage your feelings of displeasure, but what the hell...

It's not "easy to talk" when I was a finalist, because I "got in". It's easy to talk because I'm aware of how insignificant this little event was, and regardless of my submission or whether or not I was chosen, I would have let what was done be done and not question any of the results, because as I said in the grand scale of things this little contest means nothing besides its intent and that is to get people involved and have a bit of fun.

And do not be so bold as to mistake me for a fool who cannot distinguish a veiled complaint under the pretense of what you claim to be nothing but an innocent "question".

The contest wasn't to find the next amazing writer, it was for fun. All of the final entries were fun, therefore they were chosen. Does that work?

Also, there's this:

Many of you wrote sincere war stories. It was impossible to choose the best of them. So, we selected the entries that were the most unexpected, skewing the contest scale in favor of originality.

If OP really just wants to ask a question, well then he didn't read the first sentences of the post in the poll thread.

But at the same time, why are the art contests almost entirely based on artistic ability (with a slight consideration of humor, etc. which mainly only comes into play when the community votes, and not for the 7 nominations), while this one is mainly "who can make the funniest one?" or "who's is the most 'original'?"

And originality has nothing to do with the quality of any given piece. I could've written my submission about a teenage girl getting her cellphone taken away by her mother because she was texting her friend inappropriate things. Would mine then be picked because, due to the ridiculousness and very, very slim odds that anyone else went in the direction I went in, making mine exceptionally "creative" and "original"?

I would be guaranteed a spot in the final 7, correct?
