This Soffish do not eat.

As far as I can tell, 343i's reason for the red spartans fighting blue spartans in multiplayer is that they are using a holographic training programme aboard the starship UNSC Infinity.

Do you think this is a good idea, or would you liked to have seen something a bit more unexpected? Did you have any other ideas yourself that you prefer?

Holographic training programming is the single laziest explanation I could think of. Seriously. It was literally the first thing I thought of. I didn't even sit there 2 seconds thinking about.

We’re flawed because we want so much more. We’re ruined because we get these things and wish for what we had.

It's not like it's important to the plot or anything, and besides this has been the explanation for Multiplayer since CE, a training ground nothing more and nothing less. It's just that now it's being emphasized a little more.
What the hell were you wanting anyway? A lore breaking Spartan war to see who the bestest is? ;-;

Anything other than a simulation would have been too much.

Insurrectionist Spartans? The UNSC is NOT in a state to deal with that. Besides, most people wouldn't like it. Spartans are the protectors of humanity, not enemies of it.

I enjoy magma.

I feel like. Multi-player is just multi-player. I've never felt some deep need to validate it in the story. It's a separate experience. But, whatever, I guess.

Simple explanation was all that was needed.

He comes off as someone who would prefer 343i to have never existed, and so therefore bashes them at any oppurtunity.

Vengeance only leads to an ongoing cycle of hatred.

I don't mind it. I think it's kinda cool.

It's okay I guess. I don't really think in needs to be a part of the story though.

I see allot of that, and I don't understand it. Other then some of the things in Glasslands, 343i has treated the lore very well.
People need to get over the fact that Bungie is done with Halo, but Halo isn't over.

No, they said it was not going to be anything special.

Agreed, though I still just do not understand why people think GL trashed some of the canon. I and others have come up with some pretty solid reasons why some things happened the way they did--barring the inexcusable scene where Halsey survives getting Spartan punched of course.

See you on the battlefield.

Well what would you have suggested?

It works for me, not that an explanation beyond that was ever really needed.

So Red vs Blue wasn't based on true events? Aw.

Of course it was. Caboose is definitely canon. ;p

End of thread, 343i aren't making themselves look like good competent and free thinking developers. They look like Infinity Ward here, hashed up recycled crap that anyone could think of.

How are they looking like Infinity War? You know they didn't have to give a reason on why they're fighting. It's multiplayer. They didn't need a reason at all and I'm sure everybody would've been fine with that and wouldn't have thought twice about it. Now, they've given us a simple, understandable reason and people are going to flame them for it? Why? You wouldn't of had a problem if they gave no reason at all...

  • 05.18.2012 9:09 AM PDT

Hey again. I know multiplayer doesn't need an explanation. I just merely stated that 343i aren't making the impression that they need to. Specifically, I feel that 343i need to impress me with their dedication to Halo as I was impressed with Halo when Bungie released it. And I take from OP's other greatly made points that currently I'm not impressed by their inventiveness at all so far, as it just is inventive.

True. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

In fact, more than the explanation given for multiplayer, it might say more about the designers from their attempt to explain something that might have actually been better left unexplained.

Could the ancient Mayans have developed a light sensitive trap to keep Indiana Jones away? Who cares? It was awesome. How do lightsabers work? Nobody cares. Some things you should probably just leave unexplained so you can laugh about it later.

I was expecting RvB to be made canon.

It goes hand-in-hand with Spartan Ops. As more of a Campaign person, I think it's pretty cool. Now, when I'm playing matchmaking I will be preparing for away missions on Spartan Ops; and when I'm on away missions I'll be progressing my Spartan for competitive MP. I like that there's a reason for me taking part in these activities. That 343 integrated it into the narrative, and made it less divided. It's coherent now; but it's subtle enough that if people don't care they don't have to worry about it.
