I've already made threads in the past asking about which maps out of specific categories was the best and I felt like it was time I made another poll. I thought for a while and I realized it might be fun to turn it around a bit and ask which one did you feel was the worst. Seeing as though I can't include all the maps, I decided to make a list around the original maps that are often disliked by players.

I personally choose Boarding Action. I was having a hard time choosing between this or Chiron; I only chose this instead because I did get a guilty pleasure out of playing FFA Shotguns on Chiron when I wasn't in a serious mood. Boarding Action (In its default without mods) is, in my opinion, one of the worst map concepts I've ever come across.

First of all, the whole ship to ship combat thing sounds cool but it doesn't work out at all. Being able to see a large portion of the enemy side as though it's a shooting range makes it hell for competitive play and for casual play it sometimes feels like a stupid maze trying to find people. Going to each side to search for enemies is beyond tiring. It just gets so old so fast. I don't think I've ever had one good experience on this map. It's just slow, linear and uninteresting.

So which map out of these did you dislike the most? If there's one you disliked more than these, leave a post saying which map it was and why. You can even give your opinion on which map you liked the most or how I'm a terrible person with no taste for listing your favorite map.

Sidewinder. It's great when you have a bunch of players but with 2 players, it can take ages to get across the map. The ice makes driving the hog a chore (then again, it could be because I'm being lazy).

I didn't touch the ones you listed so I can't say. I'd like to see Boarding Action as a campaign map though.

Derelict was my favorite, next to Blood Gulch.

Btw, I finally got a hard drive! :D Now I can play CE's campaign without -blam!-ing about CEA.

Honestly I have to say Wizard. At least on Longest the teams spawn at opposite sides.

I would have included Wizard but I feel it is a fairly good map for a small (2 - 4) FFA Slayer match. I have had some good/fairly competitive matches there. I think the real problem is people trying to fit more than 4 players at a time.

I loved Boarding Action. It was in its own class of multiplayer maps, the layout being extremely unique.

Actually Sword Base has the same layout. It was a reimagining (Like Avalanche was of Sidewinder) of Boarding Action. In fact, if you don't believe me, the .map file for Sword Base is named "swordingaction".

As terrible as this is, I actually find Sword Base more enjoyable than Boarding Action... That's not saying much at all, though. I still cringe when I see it come up while I'm playing Reach.

I refuse to believe this. The map is so much smaller.

It is clearly based on it. Take out the floor, turn the bridges to teleporters and gravity lifts to ladders. What you have is a map built from the same concept as Boarding Action. The fact that it's smaller was a part of the redesign.

Games I like:,
Half-Minute Hero
MBU
Portal
Halo 3 is the best Halo ever
Maps I like: Turf, Avalanche, Pylon, Sandbox, Breakpoint and many more.

My favorite was Sidewinder, largely due to because I loved Avalanche.

I disliked Chiron though due to the trouble finding enemies.

But that just makes it worse! It only works because it's big enough to provide cover!

You say "works", I say "boring as hell." \o/

Seriously, though. It's one of those maps that simply doesn't work. If there's 8 players in a team game, people are too few between to fight. If it's a 12 - 16 player game, the areas in which combat happens (Whether it's across the ships or on the same level/ship) is too crowded. It's annoying as hell. The only way I've ever had fun on this map was modding it so that everyone spawns on top of the two ships and placed tons of banshees. >.>

That's what the M6D and Sniper+Rockets are for.

The reason I'm giving for this map sucking involves the sniper/pistols. Like I said, it's like a giant shooting range which both the M6D and sniper are VERY effective with. That just gets boring. Neither of these help with anything of what I said before.

Just as a side note: Anyone who uses a sniper and a rocket launcher at the same time is an absolute ass if it's a team game. >.>

I normally do because teammates have a habit of grabbing them and jumping into the abyss.

And I usually grab the Camo or Overshield and try to flank.

I meant in an actually competitive match. If you're playing with people that are "challenged" then go ahead. xD

Wow... No hate for Longest yet. More people are voting for Chiron now, though.

Realistically, probably Boarding Action, because even the niche gametypes for that map are a little awkward.

The others in the poll... I actually like, because they work well where they work. Halo 1's map pool is bizarre, but mostly pretty good.

I haven't played Boarding Action in years, so I don't know if I'm spot on with some of my points.

IIRC, Boarding Action was a symmetrical map as opposed to the asymmetric map Sword base; an map which was poorly "re-designed" based off of a campaign mission. It was far smaller which would mean that no matter where you'd place your spawn points, you'd give one team a better opportunity at reaching important locations - in this case the red team spawn.

The only problem I could remember was it being a camp-fest at both the portals on Levels 1 and 5, but I guess that lead to team tactics and innovation, and was undeniably "fairer" for the players than on Sword Base.

For the last time, the multiplayer maps were not just bits of the campaign that they tidied up for multiplayer. In fact, it was the opposite. I can not believe people still think that... -_-'

Anyway, Boarding Action was terrible for competitive multiplayer and it was also terrible for casual multiplayer because it was boring as hell. Camping =/= tactical. That has been used an excuse for many years and any competitive player will know that.

Wait, you're stating that they had absolutely no idea what the campaign missions would look like when they made the multilayer maps? It still doesn't void the fact of its design and unfairness upon immediate spawn and starting of the game, which (but this is my opinion) is more of a negative as opposed to being boring. Boring happens over time, unfairness happens immediately.

I said camping was perhaps the main problem in this map at such chokehole points.

The physical map layout was designed for competitive multiplayer. It wasn't just created for campaign then copy/pasted into multiplayer. The art assets however were used for multiplayer.

As for the boring thing, on Boarding Action, that doesn't take time. I was bored immediately when playing Boarding Action. It also doesn't matter if it's "fair", it's just all around an absolutely abysmal competitive map. At least Sword Base is a tad fun for free for all gametypes.

Boarding Action was the worst, it has a cool setting but as a map it wasn't up to par.
