Halo 1: The elites took charge.
Halo 2: The brutes took charge.
Halo 3: The hunters will take charge.

Reasoning: I have none other than the fact that the bad guy keeps getting bigger and badder. I think it would be awesome if the hunters played a larger role in the 3rd game. It would be fun to have them as allies.

How do you know that there will not be a new, bigger covenant joining the fight that takes charge or maybe the grunts will take charge because of large numbers.

  • 06.06.2006 12:27 AM PDT

You forget, the fact that Elites still command Hunters. ( which can not even speak english )

If the Hunters did not like their position in the new Covernant they would leave.

Why should that be a factor for the Hunters to rise up?

I'n not sure about your 'the hunters take charge' theory... not sure at all.

That said, I think it's pretty safe (very safe) to suspect that we're going to see something new with the Hunters. How can I say such a thing? Well... I can quote Frankie in Weekly Update Feb 3rd 2006 when he states that:

'As for the Hunters, we've only seen they're deployed combat type. Hunter society is complex and we have seen but the tiniest fraction of it. There are some fundamental facts about Hunter biology that mean the combat type is just the tip of the iceberg' (Frankie the Awesome Bald One, 2006)

Just the tip of the iceberg.... sweet. Expect cool stuff.

I really hope there will be more story on the Hunters. They seem like really fun beings to learn about.

the hunters are solemn i think, they care more for their blood brothers then the other covies. i dont think they mind them-except for the brutes. they are here to fight and have no choice in the matter due to the other covenents space technology.

SOME of the Elites CAN speak English... they do so in the book. For instance, in The Flood, Keyes is approached before capture by 'a half dozen veteran Elites' the leader of whom speaks:

'his booming voice warbling the human speech with detectable discomfort'. "You will drop your weapons now"' (The Flood, Dietz:p.87)

In fact, interestingly, the very first message sent by The Covenant to the human race is in the English language. It did not need translating at all and was pretty clear:

'Your destruction is the will of the Gods... and we are their instrument' (Fall of Reach, Nylund:p.98)

The matter caused Admiral Stanforth to comment to the Spartans that it means 'they've been studying us for some time' (Fall of Reach, Nylund:p.98)

So...there you go....Elites (at least some of them) can speak English...it's just they sound pretty dumb when they do!!! (haha)

The Hunters aren't stupid, it's more like they can't think properly at all. They are a hive creature that have one collective mind. When they have fully adapted to their new form who know what they will do?

Yeah, like red Hunter armour, or a new style of armour for them.

Dunno....something. I'd speculate something more interesting than that.

Hey...who knows.

Ok, first: The reason that elites speak english in the game is because you are hearing a translation.

Second: I kind of doubt hunters would rise up and take control of the covenant, because they broke away from the covenant along with the elites.

What seems more likely is that they would either continue to work under the elites, or break off and create an all hunter faction.

And as for hunters being stupid, they can certainly think as well as anyone else ( read the halo books)

The reason they dont seem smart is because you only see them in combat, where they're more animalistic than ruely sentient.

Hey well....

We know that the Elites were involved in 'The Taming of the Hunters'...... that'd be nice to learn a little more about. What do you people think? I think it'd be interesting....

Also...we know the Hunters work in pairs (at least the combat form we're used to seeing does) and that they have a respect for the Elites and their martial prowess....

Obviously this led them to join the Elites in the uprising against the Brutes.

Who knows what will happen. Who knows what path the Hunters may take with their new found freedom...if indeed things remain that way. I think we're gonna see something interesting with that species... but, like everybody here, God only knows what!

Getting some details on the Hunters would be great. Apparently, they have a complex society with some sort of individual hive minds. I read somewhere (official, not just off a thread) that each Hunter is made up of a number of organisms. This gives a lot of possibilities as to different types of Hunters, such as civilian forms.

I find it really interesting that Hunters only fight in two-Hunter units with their spawn-brother. This creates some unique qualities between brothers and their relationship in fighting. Why is that though only fight in pairs though? I would assume the brothers have done everything together through their lives. Assuming there are other Hunter forms, are they not fit for combat? I'm speculating, but in their own individual society, not everyone will be a warrior, so there must be other types of Hunters.

Here's a crazy idea. Perhaps the Hunters are an elite part of that society. The Hunters could be just a specific section of that society bred for combat and were tamed by the Covenant. So many questions about a powerful species.

However, in H2, when talking about the role of the Arbiters and some of the situations they have been called upon to take care of, the Prophet of Mercy mentions the taming of the Hunters. This suggests that the Hunters also have a very anamilistic side to them. Also, since it was an Arbiter that took part in taming them, the Hunter society possibly swore allegiance to the Elites since the Arbiter was one. This could be why the Hunters sided with the Elites when the Covenant split in H2.

After all that, and back to the orginal topic, I don't believe that the Hunters will take over the Covenant leadership. Sorry about the theories.

I dont think anyone will take charge, the hunters are with the elites who will take charge of the rebels...and the brutes are in charge of the Covenant Military....the tables are set kinda...but then again, we have no idea what Gravemind or Truth are up to...
