...with the flat side of a energy sword?

Like when you take a hot knife , then use the flat side to close it to stop blood loss.

basically would the concept work if you use the energy swords flat side?

...Possibly?

You would have to be VERY, VERY, VERY careful with it though. One mistake and you're done.

We should know better, because we are better.

Why would they try that? First off, how would they even get a sword? Secondly, why not use biofoam? It might be possible, but why you would want to test it is beyond me.

Well... yes but it seems like a horrible idea.

  • 05.18.2012 9:56 PM PDT

What a waste....

Well, the blade might be hot enough to just light you on fire, so... idk.

I'd think there would be better methods available.

  • 05.18.2012 9:58 PM PDT

So are you suggesting they cauterise the wound with the hot plasma of the sword. It could in theory work but it would probably be better to use biofoam.

Don't do anything you wouldn't want to have to explain to paramedics. Trust me, I'm a pilot.

They would be better off using biofoam. It's much safer than using a jet of ionized gas thousands of degrees Farenheit to cauterize a wound, in my opinion.

Wouldn't the blood just vapourise?

On the other hand, I'd never heard about the knife thing before, so you have potentially saved my life should I be stabbed and my attacker leave the weapon on my person. Thanks bro.

I think that only applies to small wounds... I remember in 300 a Spartan cauterizes another Spartan's arm with the tip of his spear, the other spartan had a cut (about 3 inches long) and I guess it was mostly done to avoid infection.

  • 05.20.2012 1:19 PM PDT

I wouldn't do it.

  • 05.20.2012 3:33 PM PDT

Biofoam seems like a better choice.

This man, this man right here put it so eloquently that I actually cancelled my own 2000+ word long post.

The person who said participating is important, not winning, obviously never won anything.

I highly doubt it. The heat of the concentrated plasma from the sword would just sear even more flesh and make it worse.

Unless you are extremely lucky and know how to manage it, but I highly doubt that you'll have the precision pulse needed to hold a sword to close an injury that needs to be closed by that type of measures.

You could just use Biofoam which is safer and has an anti-septic characteristic that the sword does not.

Is biofoam the stuff from ODST? I thought it was called medi-gel or something.

心の中に弱い風が吹いています。

Coming up on MythBusters...

Probably, although it would definitely be risky.

Yes that's biofoam. It holds organs together and patches wounds, it's very painful and only lasts for a couple of hours.

Just for clarification, biofoam is the stuff Buck inserts into Romeo's wound. It's not the stuff you pick up to recieve health.

Waypoint Moderators aren't really Moderators, just power hungry and its goal is defend their beloved Halo at all costs. (Meaning that they wank Halo too much.)

BS Angel is alleged foe so, be wary of Waypoint and its moderators! Do not attempt to move to Waypoint. Enter your own risk.

*WARNING* IT IS MY OPINION.

Are you that dumb, OP?

Plasma is hot as 5,000c. It literally vaporizes or causes fourth degree burns on flesh. Not ideal to cauterize the wound.

Some poor Marine would better off with biofoam.

...No...You'd probably end up doing what your allies would see as hara kiri.

Besides, you could just tear off your uniform or pick up something flat to stop the wound.

  • 05.23.2012 4:02 AM PDT

<(-_-)> Teh mokey is not amused

A sword would simply vaporize the wound, not cauterize it.
