I have a microsoft optical mouse, when I play I sweat, and it creates dirt, well I get a towel and wipe it off. Now, I was playing today and I did not touch a single movement button on my keyboard, and I moved 400 feet, and then my mouse will not turn at all. I turn to the left, the game moves me to the right. So I looked at the mouse and there's some dirt in there, in the cracks How can I clean it?

Also, would the optical thing have to be cleaned too? how would I do that?

If there is dirt in the cavity where the light is generated from I would try to take tweezers or a paperclip and carefully dig the dirt out avioding the lens. The tiny lens might be cleaned by a lint-free cloth you would clean a camera lens with.

Or you could just hit it with the leafblower.

Take the mouse apart. There should be some screws, and look if dirt is clogging anything.

Also check under mouse for hair in the beam and such.

If your mouse get's ruined, and you get another mouse (non optical) remember to always take off the little ball and clean all of the dirt on it. They sure can get dirty. That's just IF it get's ruined, althought those posts above were actually pretty good.

Leafblower? Everyone knows you use a presure washer on optical mice.

Seriously, try q-tip and alcohol, toothpick, or even dental floss for tight spaces.

I'm a purist, I like my leafblower. :D

Contrary to popular belief, you do need to clean optical mouse, hell, you need to clean ANY mouse periodically.

Check to see if there's hair or anything on the sensor. Everything's been covered, I think, except...yes. Check your surface itself. Optical mice don't work well on glass coffee tables, or super-reflective surfaces. Try using it on a sheet of paper to see if it helps at all.

not a white sheet of paper. Theres a reason why mice pads aren't white. Make sure your surface has no cuts or scraps. Optical mice rely on the reflection of light so any thing that can make reflections go weird is bad.

No, really. A friend uses it to get into the crevices on the side of their Apple mouse. See link to see what I'm talking about.

there are no screws to take it apart, unless I'm blind. I removed a piece of hair. I have an old mouse-pad, and I used a toothpick to scrape out some dirt, it's still messed up. I un-installed fraps, maybe that could be it too. I'm gonna check in a bit

Ok removing fraps didn't work. My keyboard and mouse are messed up in some way. I hit forward (W) when I play, and I don't move the mouse, nexth thing I know is that I'm falling to my deat on damnation.

If you have a spare mouse or keyboard you could switch them out to find out if one of them is the issue.

I emptied out most dust, it should work now. I didn't know sweat can do so much damage .... eeek

Next time I'll use the leafblower for the keyboard, and floss for the mouse.

I always clean my mouse and mouse pad on a regular basis. Lint free cloth and rubbing alcohol. Although I wouldnt scrub the optical lens area too much.

ok it's still messed up. I move forward in halo, it pulls me to the right, then backwards (at this point I don't touch any keys). My keyboard and mouse are literally doing stuff on their own, i swear they're possessed. I don't know what's wrong with my computer or mouse or keyboard.

Hm. Try replacing the mouse/keyboard with spares if you've got them, like someone mentioned.

Otherwise, I would also suggest checking the drivers and perhaps uninstalling/reinstalling drivers for them.

Also, is this a Halo-specific problem or does it affect everything on the computer?

Sorry I didnt' specify, I should of. It's just halo related. i will take my sisters keyboard in the middle of the night, I think my mouse is all right, but I can switch to a mouse with a ball in it for a while, and just see what's up.

*sister wakes up* huh? what's going on?
