Remember this from the O Brave New World Vidoc? I just have a question, is this software that Bungie created, and only Bungie has? I've never seen a 3D program like that, and I have a lot of them.

From the looks of it, it's specificaly Bungie created software.

  • 05.19.2012 6:43 PM PDT

Key

I'm pretty sure its a wholly owned and internally developed program. Nothing official's been said about it but I have no idea why Bungie would license it out without first using it exclusively on a game or franchise. It's the idea of keeping an invention for yourself for a while and then at the height of its popularity for as much money as possible.

Maya isn't made specificly for terrain, it's made for animation and modeling.

Seems like one of those "game engine" tools. Who knows?

Might be a new game.
Nope.

Good to know it's an in-house tool for now. Don't want those losers over at infinity ward getting a hold of this stuff.

Hopefully it will be someday available to be on sale. It could be new tech from Bungie for other Video Game Studios, or just Bungie exclusive.

What evidence says it isn't a game they are working on?

the fact that it is clearly a terrain editing / uv painting tool.

They could be using this to make their next game.

If it has a certain style, we could possibly imagine how it would look.

of course they are using it for their next game. And seeing as hundreds of games have terrains in them. the picture is not much of an indicator.

This just in, it's Bungie Development kits!

Edit; Upon further inspection, I spy a blue Septagon with a graduation hat in the user interface.

But only Bungie has it.
They've built proprietary tools that probably have much more advanced or specialized features in comparison to similar commercial development software. For instance, Grognok probably has more specialized tools than something like Adobe Mudbox when it comes to sculpting an environment from a plane for the purposes of exporting a heightmap. They might also need special tools to manage items in their library of assets in whatever unique way they do it. Also, it would most definitely be customized to handle filetypes specific to their engine that other software simply doesn't support.
