why dont the forums have thread finders? it will make it much more organized and more efficient. I always get annoyed when i have to search for my threads in each page to see if i got any comments. Also with thread finders you can actually find threads that you care about!

PLEASE! put in a search bar or something to find threads!

Coming soon™

Seriously though, it is supposedly on the to-do list.
In the mean time however you could try bookmarking or adding you posts to favorites (depending on your web browser) so that you can find them more easily.

I think the having threads you want to check up on in your favorites list is better for this purpose than a search could ever be.

I think g4tv.com has one. You search topics made by a specific user or use key words for topics.

It's not perfect, but you can search the forums using google. Just type in what you want to search for and then put in site:bungie.net . That makes it only search bungie.

how, exactly?

To be honest, i think what everyone wants would just be a way to search : threads by this member, threads with this title. not something that takes several years in the making, i think.

Umm..search each page manually.

And I don't think you realize the complex nature of this situation...

Just keep a word document that has your threads in it. That way, you can just click on them and be on your way.

People should -not- use the caps key. You aren't advertising or anything... =)

I think a favourites list would be counter productive; if something is really important/interesting you can bookmark it or put it in a text document. A favourite threads list would encourage bumping of long-dead old threads by the original poster.

Why don't you just setup a search from the database? you use aspx...it should be possible...

It's probably due to the sheer volume of content on the forum and in the databse. I don't remember the exact figure of posts that had to be removed when zanzibar went, but it was something absurdly large. May also be to do with the fact that B.Net runs on an entire cluster of servers, not just one webserver as most conventional websites do.

  • 06.06.2006 4:59 PM PDT

It would be good to have a search feature but i dont think it would make a huge difference at the end of the day. If i really want to keep track of my threads i just use the favourites option. Although i dont really post that much so it might be different for me.

I agree with Elmicker, just due to the large and vast amount of information being dealt with it takes lots of time. Think about it:

B.net has 500,000+ Members

If each of those members makes about 3 topics a day that is 1.5 million topics to be dealt with a day...

"Whatever exists, whatever in creation exists without my knowledge exists without my consent. These anonymous creatures may seem little or nothing in the world. Yet the smallest crumb can devour us. Any smallest thing beneath yon rock out of men's knowing. Only nature can enslave man and only when the existence of each last entity is routed out and made to stand naked before him will he be properly suzerain of the earth."

I have only seen people ask for a search function in one of three cases:

A) Someone repeats a topic, and gets "scolded" by other members for it. In defense, the thread creator then remarks "Well if the site had a search feature..."

B) People are tired of seeing repeat topics, and believe that a search feature would cure things.

C) Someone wants to be able to go to their threads without having to search manually.

In truth I'm not sure how much a search feature would actually help.

  • 06.06.2006 5:48 PM PDT

I'll be on my own side.

I fail to see a real need for a search feature. Do you see the average idiot using a search feature everytime he posts something in case it's been done before? No, because they're too busy ranting about how it's source, not sword.

I think it would be a waste of time.

That is not true. There was a fan made post showing how it might look, but that is all.

Forget Thread Searchers and Finders that is a WASTE OF TIME...

The smartest thing to do would allow a Control Panel (aka CP) for ALL the Threads you have posted in...and everyday you go onto Bungie...you go straight to your CP to see if anyone has submitted a post in one of the Threads...let the CP do all the work...flick searchers..
