Subject: what is bungie looking for?

well first off i have no idea where i would put this thread so im putting it here.

and here is the deal. at the moment im a senior in high school and i'm looking at a few colleges that are good for programming. i'm a good game designer and good at java and c++.

what my main focus on for a future job is to work at bungie. could someone who works for bungie tell me what college would be of a primary interest for me?
my friend told me that there is one near bungie's hq and that i could get an internship so that sparked a large interest.

Question. Are you actually interested in programming, or are you doing it just because you want to work at Bungie? Because you'll need to accept the fact that you mightn't get a job at Bungie for a long time, if ever.

i know that its very hard to get a job at bungie.

i dont want to work at bungie just because im working there. i want to work there because their game programming and all the dynamics online and offline. their technology in their games is what fascinates me the most, and i want to be able to work on games like that.

especially if they have games similar to halo, because im a die hard halo fan.

I can almost 100% guarantee they won't. Those Halo game says are behind them. Regardless, I enjoy your ambition. Good luck.

This.

Just to be a writer at Bungie you typically need 2-3 years hard industry experience (TV, other games, movies, etc.). And writing is a thing everyone does. Imagine how hard it is to become a programmer. Unless you're some sort of protegee, you're going to need to get some experience before attempting the interview even if the job description doesn't require industry experience.

True that. Just look at several of the Breaking In Articles that have been recently posted; many of the new employees are young and I'm pretty sure one or two were self-taught.

I wouldn't put it down to 'odds'. Showing them how good you are probably beats showing a piece of paper saying you did a course.

My best skills I self-taught myself. But a college course can always help.

No one knows the chances you have of getting the job until you submit your resume and develop your C++ and other skills you'd need.

I'm loling at how seriously dense some of the people in this forum are. He was talking game structure in reference to Halo, not "i luv halo n i want to work on dat".

OT: Good luck OP, although Apoc is sort of right; odds are you won't wind up working there. Set your goals, sure, but have a fallback plan because you'll likely wind up needing it.

"I firmly believe that any man's finest hour, the greatest fulfillment of all that he holds dear, is that moment when he has worked his heart out in a good cause and lies exhausted on the field of battle- victorious"

Good luck, OP. Also have a fall-back plan, you may need it.

So does that mean if I wanted to become a game designer for you guys, I could just right down and ponder great ideas for 10 years and then show up at your door with them?

If so, that would be awesome. That means I can still go to college with some other profession as a back up plan.

I'm thinking about working there in the future. Going to a technology high school. You better not go out of business.
