So, guys...we all know of Jesus..Halo is based around the Bible..do you think that Jesus is someone who remembered more than he was supposed to? (like how MC remmebers how to activate Forerunner tech)

The bible is really random events from the Forerunners' timeline, remembered by the people in the Ark; and passed on generation to generation until they finally decided to write it down..but by then the stories were tainted, and different.

Whatabout one of Jesus' quotes : "The Earth will be inherited by the meek", do you think that the same exact thing (thought more violently, and with a three way war going on) will happen...it'll be like the first activation of the Halos all over again..

Who do you think he was referring to by 'meek', maybe some characters from Halo are meek.

Does anyone have any more of Jesus' quotes that we can try to analyze? Maybe they will help us figure out Halo 3's story..

Also, check out this incredible, two year old theory.

He watches every Hodgetwin video they put up...on ALL their channels. He calls them the Hodge Triplets, and considers himself the 3rd triplet. He's started talking and acting like them now. Every other line out of his mouth "Thaaas some BULLLLLL**** maaayne" or "Gotta make dem gainzzzz". He calls his biceps "gains". When he eats post-workout, he talks to his biceps, "Don't worry gains, I'm feeding you. Daddys gonna feed you, gainz *kisses biceps*".

This is the greatest topic name ever. I LAWL'd when I saw it.

Uhhh... dude, I'm not sure you can compare every individual quote of Jesus to something in Halo...

Sorry but Halo is not "based around the bible". The bible didn't have ninja's on fire.

Haah well I'm sure some can, because in the Halo universe, our bible is made up of things that happened to the Forerunners many years before it was written..

Jesus was a major player in the bible, and Halo definately ties in with the bible in many aspects Wii. In the Haloverse, it's possible that Jesus is a human with some strange thing in his mind that made him remember more of the humans past as Forerunners..

This guys theory isnt all that out there, i mean think of this covenant invasion as the apocalypse, maybe john as jesus (yeah sounds a bit sketchy but he is the one reason that the humans ever had a chance), and as for lucifer? who knows. Also the bible did say that locust's would come down and their sting would hurt so bad that you would want to kill yourself, could these locusts be the covenant or some other form of the covenant we have yet to see?

I dont think MC is Jesus, but there was an MC-like Forerunner who helped set off the rings..History repeats itself.

Lucifer might be Gravemind..master of the Flood..you know..eternnal pain and suffering..sounds about right since the people taken over by the flood are rotting away while not havin control of their minds..

First strike took place before the PoA even reached the Pillar of Autumn..

The Forerunner time-warping crystal is the cause for this. When it's effects are needed, it is activated..maybe in the past a warning needed to be issued, and a Forerunner came to us and inspired us to write the bible, to help prepare for the Covenant's coming..

His name was Jesus Christ, son of God (The Forerunners)

haha, this is so whacky, but it's likely for Halo.

Given that Bungie somewhat frowns upon religious discussion, I would doubt that this is true. There are many tales and stories in the world that show some vague resemblance to biblical passages. This is just one of them.

Alright, lets make one thing clear. Halo cannot and is not based on the Bible! The idea is frankly outlandish. Halo is just a very good game with a very good plot. Just because Spartan 117 is so cool doesn't mean he's Jesus in Digital form. Just because the remote activation site for the Halo's is called the Ark doesn't mean comparisons can be drawn between it and things like The Ark of The Covenant.

I think what this guy is getting is has some credit. That is to say, Bungie have certainly used Biblical references and themes as a source of inspiration for some of their story. Don't sweat it though... they've used a whole host of other stuff as well.

Fundamentally they're just doing what any good storyteller would do.... using enduring themes based around myth, fact and legend.

I'll have you know
that I've become
Indestructible!

In the game, I believe, Jesus and His nature are not imbued on one single person. I believe that Jesus and His character are sprinkled on multiple characters.
The master chief fulfills much of it. Consider this:
Dear Humanity,
I'm sorry my first visit to Earth was so suddenly cut short, but matters of The Covenant were pressing.
I descended into the grave and took Regret with me, but the grave wouldn't keep me.
Instead I ascended to the Holiest Place of The Covenant in pursuit of Truth.
Because of all this, because I brought Regret with me to the grave, the old covenant as
we know it is passing away.
Well, this is my Second Coming to Earth, just as unexpected as when I left.
I'll be the one to save us all.
Your reclaimer,
Redeemer,
117

How many people can say that? 2 that I know of, but One is on a different mission.

But also the Arbiter in his punishment fulfills the Messianic prophecy that points to Jesus in Isaiah chapter 53.
Remember how the soon to be Arbiter was punished because the rest of his fleet couldn't kill the chief? You'll know what I'm getting at if you clicked the link.

My point is this... keep theories fluid.

Exactly. And they don't want us discussing religion if we are going to put down another's religion or say one religion is better than another. Finding the religious links are all good though, since this forum is mainly about Halo 3 speculation..the bible is a major part of the Halo universe...though there are many many other factors, the bible is the thing that links the humans, Forerunners, and Covenant.

  • 06.06.2006 1:09 PM PDT

True, using myth for inspiration has been around for aeons, but somewhere in here, someone said that "Jesus is a forerunner" or something. Me being an Atheist makes it hard to believe anyway but wacky doesn't begin to cover things.

On the plus side of things, I think this is a really good thread.

  • 06.06.2006 1:11 PM PDT

I think the point is not to push religion.
I had a thread a year or two ago that described what halo 2 was going to be like with passages from the book of Daniel. Chalk full of religious scripture, but the thread was never locked.

On a related note: Would you be interested in joining my group devoted to the Biblical allegories of halo? It's the bottom link in my sig. The freaky writing.

The reason they don't want people discussing religion is due to the fact that any thread containing a hint of religious reference turns into what you just said, a flamefest.

Right now, I see no problem with this thread. If it doesnt get locked, come back and look at it tomorrow. It will be 1) Locked, 2) Deleted or 3)a flamefest that hasnt been shut down because the mods havent stumbled across it yet.

Thanks for the great quote man..

Dear Humanity,
I'm sorry my first visit to Earth was so suddenly cut short (MC left the Earth in Halo 2)

but matters of The Covenant were pressing (He needed to do more to try to stop the Covenant, because they found Earth)
I descended into the grave (Gravemind)
and took Regret with me, (The Prophet went down too)
but the grave wouldn't keep me. (Gravemind sent him and the Arbiter on more missions)
Instead I ascended to the Holiest Place of The Covenant (High Charity) in pursuit of Truth (The Prophet)
Because of all this, because I brought Regret with me to the grave, the old covenant as we know it is passing away. (Covenant civil war is beginning, Truth is believed to be the Prophets' ring leader, and knows the most about what the Rings will do, and just wants to get it over with asap, and have the power to himself.)
Well, this is my Second Coming to Earth, (End of Halo 2)
just as unexpected as when I left. (The Covenant brought him away from Earth and back to Earth abruptly)
I'll be the one to save us all. (Great line from the Breaking Benjamin song: Blow me Away from the Halo 2 soundtrack
Your reclaimer, (Reclaimer. Forerunner. Jesus. Master Chief, Arbiter (?)
Redeemer (synonym of reclaim,
117 (John's number)

Well we are all technically forerunners (in the haloverse), and Jesus was either just another human (except in the halo version, he would have remembered more from the past than he should've) or he was the son of god (a Forerunner that uses the crystal to visit us, and warn us of he covenant)

Any way you want to look at it works really, it isn't really debateable if he was on Earth..he was a person, it's up to someone is they want to believe if he was the son of god, or just a prophet with a new idea for a religion.

John 117 3:16
For Cortana so loved the world that she gave her only begotten Master Chief, that whosoever shall followeth him shall no perish, but have everlasting life. But if you do perish, do not fret, for you shall respawn in 10 seconds.

I thought we already discussed this before. Case closed.

To me comparing Jesus and Halo is really lame and completely ruins my game experience. So I would tell those Church geeks to stop it. It isn't what you think it is. Errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!

I know you are but what am I?

Edit: I'd like to point out that none of us are here to enhance YOUR game experience. I disagree with the Bible posts, but it's not really my right to poke fun at them. Calling someone a "Church Geek" only shows how big of an idiot you are. It cracks me up how those who claim to be the most open-minded, are often the most close-minded when it comes to those of religion. I don't say which religion is right, or who is right for believing them...

Leave if you're going to flame. Halo and the bible hold many important ties to one another, so it's logical to compare the two when trying to figure out the story. I mean, read thr above quote made by Jesus and how I broke it down into relating to halo.

Right on. First of all, there's no rael evidence to prove that Jesus even existed. And The Bible isn't proof. secondly, the Crystal found in First Strike doesn't send you back in time, it just messes around with it, and messes with physics. It doesn't actually send you back to the Big Bang or Dinosaurs.
