Usb, but I want an optical connection for my laptop.
Yes, but what will you connect it to?

Usb for power or I can just use battery on the mixamp. But I just need an optical audio port for my mixamp for dolby digital live.

Amazing system but 2 1tb hd's in RAID 0> 1 2tb HD

Also why not get intel if you are spending that much? And you should of got a better monitor. You went WAYYYYYY overkill on the PSU. You could of got a more powerful system out of that money, but nonetheless, it's still kick ass. Planing on Crossfiring? If you are going to use a headset you NEED a sound card. Believe it!

Other than that 9/10 for performance

7/10 for the money.

If you are going to use a headset you NEED a sound card.

Not really, most headsets are single-jacked 2.1 stereo, and most new motherboards are compatible with 7.1 with an integrated sound chip that already allows high definition audio.

My motherboard has 7.1 and I was able to notice a nice improvement

I'm going to be helping my friend build a computer this summer. His budget is a huge....$450... -_-

Basically, I need parts to show him for everything except a hard drive, optical drive, and OS. He is re-using those components in his build.

Anything would be greatly appreciated. Helping him build a computer will be good practice for me when I build my own about a year or so from now (hopefully sooner than that).

For the most part, The Falcon Guide is all you need.

The only thing to take into consideration is the OS.
Edit: And I just re-read your post so ignore that^

I Finished building a decent computer yesterday.
All I desperately need to upgrade is my GPU and then I should be running high/ultra settings, bro.
Feels good.

Now, to start installing the OS...

Installing the OS isn't that hard.

Here's a video tutorial if you need it though.

Case
RAM

The RAM is exactly that (at 1333 I believe), but only 4GB because I was cutting a bit of money off my build. Don't have extra cash on me.

Edit: It's DDR3 1600 4GB RAM (2 x 2GB).

Take a look at this chart for a general idea of the price to performance of higher end GPUs, just to have a good look on how much you're going to get for what you pay.

The picture URL says it's two sticks of 4GB, but isn't 8 GB of DDR3 RAM around $50-$60?

Yeah, sorry. I was only giving a picture of what the RAM looked like. The RAM I actually have is 4GB total, two sticks.

And yes, I do believe 8GB of RAM is around that.

From my quick searching, you're not really saving much by getting 4 GB compared to 8 GB, and it's actually cheaper to go for the 8 GB version in terms of what you're getting. However, if it's simply out of your budget, then I can understand.

Yeah, it was.

My birthday gift is that my mom is going to buy the previous parts I mentioned, but before that even came into question, I had to buy the case, RAM, and optical drive myself, and I simply didn't have the extra few dollars to get the extra 2GB of RAM.

This is why I have a 700W PSU on the list; not that RAM takes up a lot of wattage, but I plan on upgrading from this case/build in hopefully what will be the near future. So I guess you could say I was future-proofing a bit.

Horrible processor. I would sooner get a Thuban than Zambezi if you REALLY think that AMD automatically has a better price-performance ratio just for having a lower price.

I Just built a computer, I'm pretty sure installing the OS was no problem.

I Do need help with something however.
My current GPU has 3Gb memory. (And yes, that isn't RAM.) however, Yougamers is telling me I only have 440Mb on board video memory... and I need 500 to play BF3.
Can someone explain what's happened?

It must be wrong....because cards has VRAM in intervals of 256MB, 512MB, 1GB, 2GB, and 3GB, and the 256MB and 512MB are usually found in super old GPUs.

What GPU do you have anyways? But you shouldn't worry. Just find the specs for 'X' game, and see if your build is good enough to play it. As simple as that.

iDon't need an app to make fart noises. There's an ass for that.

This thread is quite popular here and has popped up several times. I guess I can always volunteer if there is any help. Include me on the PM list and I can ask any questions there.

I've built my own desktop computer, and I've worked for an IT department. I also spend a lot of time just tinkering with things. PM is the best way for me.
