So the 660 came out, how's it look?
BF3 still doesn't look quite playable on Ultra, but it's only about 3-4 fps difference from the TI. I bet with a slight overclock it would run just as well.

Currently the most powerful single GPU

  • 09.15.2012 1:45 PM PDT

I got these cheeseburgers man....

But isn't that card pretty much the price of a whole build?

  • 09.15.2012 1:47 PM PDT

Yep

Bear in mind it's designed completely differently as a GPU

It's for people at Pixar and 3D Animation, so as well as games, they're designed for other things as well

it ONLY just happens that it's the best at GAMING as well. It's a jack of all trades card.

Yeah, I knew that, but I didn't actually think it was good for gaming though.

  • 09.15.2012 1:51 PM PDT

It's the most powerful in both respects right now. The quadros come nowhere near it

  • 09.15.2012 1:51 PM PDT

Who the hell do you think I am?

I thought most cards like that were only good for 3D animation, but that's pretty cool. Still would never put it in any of my builds though.

They ARE only good for 3D animation, but it just so happens to be good for gaming as well. It's a coincidence that it works well for both.

but that's pretty cool. Still would never put it in any of my builds though.

Well of course not, it's not like it's price/performance for gaming is worth it.

They are somewhat decent for gaming but still geared for professional work.

Anyway, could any recommend a good software for CD/DVD burning? Thanks in advance!

What makes a card good for animation and not gaming?

Probably the architecture of it, I'm guessing. The hardware could also be built to better utilize animation and photo software rather than DirectX

Windows 7 has a burning program pre-installed. Can't remember its name...but it's there somewhere.

AMD Firestream/Firepro and Nvidia Quadro Series come to mind first for that, not sure about any other names but there are probably some.

It just so happens to be a coincidence for the Firepro.

My pc is acting up. It seems like both my graphics card and my hard drive are faulty.

I need to replace them both, but i can only afford to replace them one at a time.

What graphics card shall i get and what hdd shall i get?

Im currently on a Radeon 5770 1GB.

AFAIK, any card good for gaming is fine for animation. If you're animating / rendering, the most important thing is as much RAM as you can find.

If your motherboard has indicator LEDs showing a fault on a specific component, be sure to check them.

I dont think it has them. I know the graphics is faulty because occasionally the image will hang and when it comes back to normal i get an error message saying "amd display driver has stopped working and recovered". While playing games the pc also just freezes.

Sometimes i get blue screens when gaming. Sometimes when i turn the pc on, power is supplied to the monitor, keyboard, mouse but no image is displayed and the keyboard mouse become unresponsive.

My pc had overheating problems due to a faulty PSU earlier (got sold a dud by local computer shop). I invested in a quality psu after that but i guess its already done its damage.

So im looking for a decent graphics card, i dont know geforce cards well, but im looking at a radeon 7850 and i dont know its geforce equivelant.

I can probably run it off my corsair ax750w psu

750W will be more than enough for a 7850. Hell, I'm using a 700W PSU for my 7950.

My TX 650w has 12v rails good enough for a processor upgrade AND crossfire on two HD 6870s.

people overshoot PSU wattage a lot

A 650 watt PSU wouldn't be able to handle SLI or Crossfire, unless the cards are like....uuuuuber old.

The Newegg PSU calculator says no....but then again....what are your PC specs?
