Thanks for the answer. I already suspected as much, shame i didn't go for a P8Z77 when i had the chance, could have avoided all this. Besides the Ivy Bridge support, what are the other differences between the Z68 and the Z77 chipsets, specially anything that changes the overclocking in any way? The only difference I'm aware of is that the Z77 chipset has a built-in USB 3.0 controller.
That's not a feature exclusive to the chipset, USB3 has been around for a while.
Different chipsets have no performance difference outside of overclockeing, you only really need to worry about what kind of chipset you're using if you're planning on overclocking, and even then, there aren't that many advantages between 2 motherboards that support the same processor.
Since it is a unlocked CPU, it would be a waste not overclocking it even if not by much(mainly due to the exponential increase in temperature the more you push it).
