The Intel Heatsink is very very quiet
It is. Very inaudible during gaming.

But definitely not advisable for overclocking.

Some guys got a 2500k to go 4.5 on the stock HSF without melting it, I'd say it's pretty good

As in "wouldn't melt", I meant stable

Nice. Pretty impressive heat sink.

Some guy was able to clock a Pentium CPU past 4.0 GHz. I'll try to find the video.

EDIT: DAMN....he overclocked it to 6.0GHz! That's insane! And this was done on a Pentium IV....pretty old CPU.

Who the hell do you think I am?

Some of the highest overclocks ever have happened on single and dual-core CPUs.

I was just about to say this. Seems like overkill to me though in general, depending on your system. I can max games out without any issues but I made sure to get a really good CPU cooler etc... so I can OC down the line if need be.

Still, knowing how Intel messed up with the NetBurst architecture. Performance would be still subpar.

Is the processor and mobo included in that $1000 price?

If it isn't, here.

I'd suggest you go for this.

The 7950 is no slouch when it comes to gaming and it also overclocks nicely.

I say go with a 570 over the 7950. It's a bit less powerful...a bit....but it's like...$100 cheaper.

I think he should go for the 660ti, it's the same price as the 7950 and well I'm not sure how equal are they in terms of performance.

Okay, I've got two video cards I'm looking at the Sapphire Vapor-X 3GB and the Vapor-X 6GB. I'm going to be running three monitors hopefully on as high a res as I can manage. The 6GB version just has 3GB more of vRAM and remains the same in other aspects, but with an increased $150 price tag. Thoughts?

My Anime List | Steam.

Intel C2D E8400 3.8GHz | Asus P5Q Deluxe | Sapphire Radeon HD 4870 2GB Vapor-X | G.Skill 4GB DDR2 1066MHz | Windows 7 Professional x64 | Sennheiser HD555 | Leopold Otaku with Cherry MX Blues | Cyborg R.A.T. 7

How high of a resolution? If all three monitors are 1920x1200 or less individually, then just get the 3GB version. If you're running 2560x1440 or up on each monitor, you'll be better off with multiple cards.

He could get a Seagate 1TB for $70, which I trust more than the spinpoint. As for the SSD, 64GB seems a little low, so 128GB would be preferable if he can save money in other areas such as getting a 300R or a SeaSonic M12ii PSU.

What?

I use a 570 and I can tell you right now that the 660 Ti overclocks much better and has lower temps. It will also have new driver support for longer since it's a generation ahead.

In wine there's truth but in silence there's surrender.

So I'm thinking about hooking up a second monitor, but I'm not sure what resolutions that will allow me to use seeing as how I've never had a dual monitor setup before. Both have a native res of 1080p and both are about the same size screen (22 inches) so I'm guessing you just multiply the pixel width by 2? The second monitor is mostly just so that I have more space to work with when I'm using autoCAD, but it would be nice if I could run BF3 and other games across both screens at decent FPS as well.

I'm also going to assume my good ol' 460 wouldn't be able to handle BF3 on high at that increased resolution (anything above 1080p), so now I'm looking around to see which cards can handle a dual monitor setup w/ BF3 at high-ultra at reasonable frame rates (60~fps). I'm not going to run out and get a card asap, I'd just like to know what my options are in terms of video cards that would suit this setup, not looking for anything overkill here.

tl;dr - for a dual monitor 1080p setup what resolution would it end using to span across both monitors? And do I need a beastly card so I can still get max fps in games and also game at the increased resolution?

Sorry if this sounds wordy I'm having trouble explaining this for some reason lol.

If you have a GT 520M, you shouldn't be gaming, let alone this game.

Just times the resolution width by 2, you won't get increased resolution in games, or at least most games. In few instances, you can use it as sort of a split-screen, but you need software. Screen size can be as arbitrary as you want, you can even have 2 monitors of different sizes in pixels, but for the actual physical size, you can have a projector as the second monitor and it wouldn't matter.

Games won't display for a very specific reason on a dual monitor setup; It's really retarded to block the center if your screen. Which is why there will be one screen that's free to do other stuff, so you won't have to mess with steam overlay or alt+tab.

So the only other way to go multi monitor with BF3 (and other games) would be to not buy just one but two extra monitors? I can see how having the crosshair divided across the middle of two screens would be painful to play. Now the question is what current gen cards can actually handle 5760x1080 at higher quality settings. I'm guessing none unless you pay a small fortune for SLI GTX 680s or something of the sort.
