Holy crap, I wasn't expecting all this. I really appreciate the help guys!
Which build do you think you'll be getting?

I'm still comparing the builds, but most likely Chris Gotham's or TopWarGamer's. Possibly Fluffy's, if they want to pay that much.

While it's true I didn't give a budget, I doubt they'd pay as much as your build unfortunately. I have to say though, I might recommend it for some friends who want to get into gaming.

Well if that's the case, then definitely go for Fluffy's build. The onboard video on the Core i3 will be just fine for watching videos.

With Salty's build, removing the video card would price it at $526.47, which is more expensive than mine due to the slightly higher clocked CPU and the modular PSU. I prefer mine because of the SSD, and it's slightly cheaper.

For the other two builds, the worst thing that you can do is cheap out on your PSU. If it goes bad, there's the potential that everything could go bad. In Salty's case, he had a prebuilt which used a no-name 700W PSU. It crapped out on him and most likely caused the death of his GTX 670. At least purchase Antec, Corsair, or SeaSonic, but stay away from Cooler Master. Their higher-end PSU's are better, but are still blown out of the water.

Fluffy's right about buying a PSU. NEVER cheap out on one. Dare I say it's the most important component in the PC.

I usually go AT LEAST 80 plus bronze for decent budget builds, and if somebody is on a small and tight budget, then I go AT LEAST 80 plus.

Can someone build me a computer for as cheap as possible, that will run any game at max settings for at least 5 years barring some retarded graphical leap.
What is the most you're willing to spend?

And do you need a monitor, keyboard, headset, OS as well?
I want trips monitors, a good mmo style mouse, and a good keyboard that is not loud as all -blam!-. I'd prefer the keys to be laptop style, aka flat; and windows 7 64bit unless I can use my current cd for win 7 on a new computer. Also, the absolute cheapest that I can get that will be great quality. I'm working with an extremly limited budget.
Triple monitors? On an "extremely limited" budget?

You're going to have to be a lot more clear on the price or I wont be able to help you. Having a build that can run smoothly on three monitors can have you go well over $1000 or even $2000.
No more than 3k but preferably less than 2k

I found this build I had saved.

How does that look? That doesn't include a keyboard, headset or mouse by the way.

Here's one for the $2k price range.

You can throw another 7970 in there in three or so years if games get more graphically intensive, but unless consoles upgrade their hardware, that won't happen.

Mouse:

Keyboard: Mechanical, mechanical, mechanical. I highly suggest you reevaluate your habit of using flat-style keys when, although they are superior to raised rubber domes, you most likely haven't used a good keyboard. I would suggest this one.

For MMO gaming mice, I don't have a lot of experience with them, but it would come down to the Razer Naga vs. Logitech G600. I'd have to do some more research before I could recommend this.

Finally ordered the last part I needed for my build, but I realized that I still need an aftermarket HSF. Suggestions?

You don't necessarily need an aftermarket HSF. For the time being, at least.

If you have a core i5 or i7 then a Cooler Master Hyper 212+ would be fine. And for now you can just use the stock cooler and the put on the 212 when it arrives.

I definitely intend to OC so a HSF is going to be needed. As for the Cooler Master, I've strongly considered that but am currently trying to go for as quiet of a build as I can manage. Do you have the Hyper 212, and if so what would you say its decibel range is at?

I built my brother's computer with it, but I don't use it on mine, so I wouldn't be able to answer that for you. There are quieter solutions out there but they're more expensive, and a lot of people use the 212+.

How do you spend more than $2k on a laptop? Even an MSI with a 256gb ssd, i7 3670, and gtx 680 doesn't break 2.2k.

  • 09.30.2012 10:05 AM PDT

Yeah I'll likely end up settling for the 212+. I really want the Noctua NH-D14, but I'd have to apply it later. How difficult is it, if you know, to remove a HSF (in this case the stock one) and clean up the thermal paste?

Throwing my build out there as well.

And as for using your current Windows 7 CD/product key, you can do that. Saves you $100.

The stock one is absolutely awful to remove. In the two builds that I had, I felt like I was going to break the motherboard, and trust me, I know how durable motherboards are. They should just scrap the Intel HSF altogether.

For the thermal paste, it's about ten to twenty minutes of applying rubbing alcohol and trying to not get it on your skin, otherwise it won't come out.

Intel should use these as their stock HSF instead.

  • 09.30.2012 10:25 AM PDT

Well crap. I suppose in that case I'll go ahead and spring for my HSF and just wait for it to be delivered before assembling the PC. What do you use in yours Fluffy?

Right now I use the Corsair H100, although the only major advantage that it has over the 212+ is that it has a lower profile. It's about as loud since they both are dependent upon the fans that you use, and it keeps it about 10*C cooler, although the 212+ rarely broke 60*C under load (whereas the Intel broke 90*C constantly).

Just get the 212+ now and spend the extra money on other components or games.

  • 09.30.2012 10:32 AM PDT

What's the decibel level on it approximately? Though I suppose either way my Vapor-X will be getting around 40 or 50 dB.

Quick question. Anybody know where I can get something like this for under 10$ with shipping in Canada? It's easy as hell to find in America, but in Canada they seem to average at around 30$, which is ridiculous.

While running games, about 30dBA on the 212+ and 35dBA on the H100 (Because it has two more fans with my setup).
