Dang it, due to the MOSFET's on the ASRock Extreme4 should I cancel my order for that board if I intend to OC? Though despite what Sin Hardware says I know quite a few people are OCing with this board, just didn't realize it might seriously affect longevity.

If you are planning to OC, a better quality board is probably a good idea.

I'd recommend the ASUS P8Z77-V.

Is it worth canceling the order in your opinion?

Dang it, it's already shipped.

So...uh...what now? Are you going to proceed with overclocking?

Well that's part of the reason I asked in this thread if the quality of the MOSFETS was enough to discourage OCing. I know others have done it in the past (given the popularity of this board, especially on /r/buildapc), but at this point I'm not sure. If it can't be answered adequately I'll try /r/gamingpc.

So as some may know I was planning on upgrading my computer's GPU this winter. This leaves me with a gaming GPU lying around (could leave it in the computer but if this works it may be more worthwhile)

I have an old dell computer. Pentium 4 2GB RAM. Doesn't look good at first glance. But. It is the best Pentium 4 from it's time, 3.6GHz with hyperthreading. I was wondering if anyone had any insight if this would be able to play most modern games on decent settings. I would add 2GB of RAM and a new PSU (Damn Dell and their specific # of plugs).

Old GPU would be GTX 560ti (Yes, not really that old)

Specs and such

Since it's one of the better Pentiums it was built on a Socket 775 configuration. Another option is (only if necessary) buy an older Core2Quad CPU (775) and replace the Pentium. Something like this

Likely RAM
Likely PSU

Well, I suppose it's not that fancy: nvidia geforce gt 640

Isn't the Pentium 4 a single core processor? If yes, then I would say no to the gaming. Most games out now today, even the less graphically demanding ones require at least a dual core processor, even if your CPU is clocked up to 3.6GHz.

That's the thing though, it's 1 physical core, but it has hyperthreading, so it is seen as 2. I don't know how that would work out.

I don't exactly have a good experience with Prescott Pentium 4s.

They have a high TDP and have underwhelming performance.

For anybody looking for a low end, low budget build, AMD has finally come out with their new APUs.

Here's the NCIX page for them.

Here's a review of the new APUs in action. NCIX made the video. These new APUs smoke the competition.

NOTE- These new APUs are socket FM2!!! So there are very few motherboards compatible as of now, but that NCIX page has the ones that are buyable and are FM2.

These new APUs can support up to THREE monitors at one time. I'm sure not 3 in gaming...but 3 in standard....still though....3 monitors running on integrated graphics....
+1 AMD

I have a question about vsync. When I run Crysis on very high settings, it plays well, except for the screen tearing. When I enable vsync, the tearing is gone, but the frame-rate drops. I tried all settings without vsync, and they all have screen tearing. Am I doomed to always use vsync?

edit: it might not be about PC building, but I don't want to create a thread just because of it.
It's your monitor. What model do you have?

If it's anything like the Extreme3, then you can hit 4.5 GHz easily.

August? Thats the latest? Anyways thanks. Once I have the money for a 700 build I guess I will show it off here.
It might not be the latest. I'm not sure though.

That's quite a bit outdated and you have items in the card which are more expensive and inferior to others (e.g. the RAM, CPU). Don't forget that the NEO ECO PSU also requires you to purchase the power cable, which is $5.

Doesn't look that bad in my opinion. Sandy Bridge CPUs don't support DDR3 1600 MHz anyway.

But...

It's double the number there because it's dual channel.

No it's not

It's the same speed, they just have more data pipelines to work from
