It's double the number there because it's dual channel.

No it's not

It's the same speed, they just have more data pipelines to work from
Okay, I know what you're saying.

Looked into the RAM speed limit some more. Everything I found states that Sandy Bridge officially supports up to 1333mhz and Ivy Bridge officially supports up to 1600mhz. It is possible to overclock it though. What I'm getting from this is that if you buy an overclockable board, you can safely overclock you RAM to the speed rated on the package.

Flood Kids? Lol.

Here is what I recently built for 1k, and it can run any game on maxed graphics at at least 50fps (The most demanding being Max Payne 3 at 50fps)

CPU: Intel i5 3550 3.7GHZ Quad Core
PSU: NZXT Hale 750W Bronze Certified
GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 660Ti powered by nVidia
Case: NZXT Phantom 410 Mid Tower
Motherboard: Z77X-UD3H by Gigabyte
Memory: G.SKILL Ripjaws DDR3 1600 2X4GB (8GB)
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 2TB

Some keyboard I had laying around, some 25$ optical drive that I cannot remember, and a Razer Deathadder Mouse. All for 1k.
I'm currently getting 80FPS on Guild Wars 2 on max graphics. I love this computer!

Nice rig!
I have near identical specs as you, just the CPU/GPU slightly stronger then yours, but still
Awesome rig.

Very nice build indeed.

The build I'll be doing next month will be somewhat similar....except I'll be getting a 670....hopefully.

I got these cheeseburgers man....

I want a 670, but I doubt it'll happen. More likely a 7950, or possibly a 660ti.

The difference between the 670 and 7950 is not large. You probably wont notice a different.

There will be a noticeable difference. The 670 is a lot more powerful than the 7950....although the 7960 is not a bad card at all.

Same with the 670 and 660ti too. The only difference between them is that the 660ti has a smaller memory bus and a slightly smaller core clock.

Since that's the case I would go with the 660ti, because free Borderlands 2 (I think that offer is still going)

Will the smaller memory bandwidth affect using dual monitors, with one being gaming, one being whatever else.

Dual, triple, etc. etc. monitors is more dependent on how much VRAM you have.

Another added perk of getting my 660ti! I love borderlands, and my local shop in Canada gave me 2 of those lol. There way of saying thanks for the 1 grand ;) <3

As long as the game is on just one, then no. At a single monitor at 1080p, they perform great, usually better than Radeon cards, but any resolution higher or any more monitors and the Radeon cards usually perform better.

But no, you'll be just fine.

But most often more VRAM is useless, depending on the memory bus size. It's mostly just on NVIDIA cards, though.

Modern day cards have a good memory bus though. You only need to worry about that if you're buying like....an OOOOLD Nvidia or ATI card with only 512MB of VRAM on it....which you shouldn't be buying anyways.

I'm getting excellent performance out of my 7950.

I might have considered NVIDIA if they are any cheaper in my country. The GTX 660 Ti is more expensive than the 7950.

Yeah, but if you're doing 1440p a Radeon card would still be more efficient nowadays. I like NVIDIA products more, don't get me wrong, but factually each card performs better in certain areas than the other.

Some games are just better optimized for one or the other. Both cards also have most of the same features, but perform better in one than the other because the company usually has been working with it longer. For example, NVIDIA has better 3D functionallity but AMD has better multi-monitor capabilities. There's a lot more, too. So in the end, when it comes to buying a card from either company that performs about the same, it's really just (like I always say) a matter of preference.
