lower your FOV

can you actually play like that decent
40-50ish fps on mid-low... yeah it's not bad, definitely playable

can't seem to figure out how to get games to run 3840x1080 without having to make the game windowed and stretching it across manually. bf3 was the only game i could do this with

i just flew around and stuff just to see what it was like, the gap wasn't too bad. maybe i should go play a smaller map and see how much more difficult it makes it to aim. im sure it will be pretty much impossible

no IM GOING TO LEAVE THE FLASH ON AND YOU'RE GOING TO LIKE MISTER

Do you guys think I can get a decent gaming computer with i7 (or other quad core) with 8gb and a decent graphics card. So overall I could play Crysis 2 on medium with decent fps or Arma 2 on high. I live in Australia by the way. Also motherboards I rarely see mentioned, do they not matter as much for a gaming machine?

You don't need an i7 for gaming. I have an i5 with a Radeon HD 7950 and I can max out games just fine.

For motherboards, I'd suggest don't go for extremely cheap ones from obscure brands. Get a motherboard from ASUS, Gigabyte, ASRock or MSI.

Do you have a budget? I could prepare a build for you.

Wow, good advice, thank you.
I dont want to be spending anymore than $1,200.
I work in a small computer shop at the moment, and we build computers. The issue is I don't know what is the best for my cash, the good thing is though i can get a discount on what is best.
Having to use i5 and 3.8gb usable RAM with a radeon 5650 just is not enough for arma 2. I wont be able to play the upcoming arma 3, because the new engine's minimum system requirements is pretty much what I've got currently.

Sounds like you just need to update the graphics card.
EDIT: Wait, do you have an i5, or no?

So with running games, what determines if it needs better cpu, or more RAM. Which is more important for running a game, or it depends on the game?

4GB and over is fine for pretty much any game out currently. And like they said, i3's and 5's are fine. The GPU is probably what you'll need to pay most attention to.

Yeah I see. I've got an HP DV6 laptop, with 3.8gb RAM, i5 and an ATI Radeon 5650 graphics card. I play Arma 2 on it on low settings for smoothness.

You can't really upgrade anything on a laptop.

$1,200? I'd assume it's in Aussie dollars.

Do you need a monitor and OS?

Yes, I will need a monitor. OS, you mean operating system like Windows 7? Yeah I'l need that too.
$1,200 in Australia dollars. And then i can ask my shop if they can beat it. If not, I've still got the best for $1,200

LOL! That's a terrible setup... no offence, but it's not fit for optimum play performance.

I've been playing CoD on the pc (the singleplayers). No matter what setting I use, I get....I don't know how to explain it.

When I enter a room/hall and I see the corners, it "slides", but it's a "jaggy" slide. It's not smooth. Anyone explain this?
You mean the 4x Anti-Aliasing?

Isn't that to make the lines smoother? They are, but, like I typed before, when I turn , they do a "jaggy slide". No screen tearing.

*it only happens when I turn, not when I stay still or move in one direction.
Post a screenshot.

I doubt a screenshot would help. How would I record it?

Use either Steam's screenshot manager or FRAPS.

I figured out what the problem is. Vsync. And the proper term for my problem is "stutter".

This vid explains it a bit. I see that some of the comment don't agree with adaptive vsync. I'm not sure what to use: adaptive or vsync+triple buffering? Does my screen contribute to the decision? It's 60hz.

I've also read that D3DOverrider could help out. What is it?

Well, 60hz means it could only have 60FPS(I could be wrong though).
Assuming you have Nvidia branded GPU's, go to the Nvidia control panel Pic for reference
If you have an AMD one, go to the Catalyst Manager.
