*sorry for the repost...*

Can someone have a look at my build please and tell me if there are any areas you would either improve on or shave off?

It's my first ever build and am desperate for some feedback. I would like to max Battlefield 3 and Skyrim, and would prefer not to have to upgrade for at least 5 years.

Also, I am physically building this myself as a hobby - so any advice would be great!
I've found that Intel processors preform better than AMD processors. If you can spare the extra money, I'd recommend an i5-2500k.

That was my second choice...but I went more more cores for a similar price.

In what way are Intel better? Quicker? Or more applications at once? Quieter?
Just because it has more cores does not mean it will be better. The i5-2500k will be significantly better than that processor. Heck the I3-2100 will even preform better and that only has 2 cores.

ALSO I highly recommend that you get faster RAM. Yours is 1333 you should get 1600. It's only 10 bucks more.

1600 from 1333 is like a 1% speed gain. You can also just OC the 1333 RAM.

The rest of my parts are coming today, hopefully.

If you want pics, OP, I can provide them.

Please upload I am excited to see. Where did you scavenge your money for it?

All of the parts were actually birthday presents. Of course, my mom had no idea what was what, so she asked me for the total of everything, and let me spend just that.

I'm on it right now. I can give you pics in a bit.

In random news, a Gigabyte HD Radeon 6850 i ordered arrived DOA (dead on arrival). Which sucks. A lot. And to top it off, amazon won't give me a full refund because of a restocking charge. Have to wait a little bit to get the money to order a 560. I haz a sad.

Ouch.

I hope the Sapphire 6850 I installed won't die any time soon.

There are some nice SSDs you can get that would still keep you in budget. If speed is what you want, then I'd add one and keep the HDD for the large files you don't normally have running.

Nice what SSD's would you recommend? And is the overall build ok? Thanks.

I personally recently ordered this SSD (it should be here Wednesday). The specs on it were pretty good for the reads and writes, and the reviews seemed encouraging. There's also this one that I saw under the recommendations. It's cheaper, but pretty close on the specs.

Other than that, you look to be good on the rest (or at least if it's everything you want) as I'm not going to judge harshly. I might recommend getting a Blu-ray drive though.

Doesn't matter how trusty a brand is. Every graphic card series has DOA's it's quite common.

Charlie, good build but that case is horribe. Probably won't even fit that GPU. Spend an extra $50 bucks on a case or you will have heating, space, and cable problems.

Thought mine died once ages ago, and it turned out that I forgot to put in the standoffs, so the card was precariously hanging out the edge of the PCI. I'm just so glad it didn't do any long-term damage. This PSU saved my sorry ass from frying my whole system.

I tried putting in the 4-pin connectors from my chassis fans into the motherboard. Apparently, I didn't need to do that because they were already getting power from the PSU, so I didn't need to plug them in again. I'm guessing those ports are for extra fans.

I also did a bunch of incorrect wire connecting. I'm so glad I decided to just start over with plugging a lot of things in, because I probably would've killed my system, even though just the case fans didn't work...

Anyway, my computer has been built. If you want pics, just ask of what, but I believe I have somewhat of a better understanding of computers now that I'm able to help people.

I thought that the fans on the case also had controllers as well that could be delegated to the motherboard? Are you routing control to the case instead (if it has that feature)?

I would like to run Battlefield 3 on medium to high settings so let me know what you guys think of this setup.
A CyberpowerPC Gamer Ultra GUA250 AMD FX-4100:
AMD FX Series Quad Core FX 4100 Processor 3.6GHz
8GB DDR3 RAM
A 500 watt power supply
ASUS ENGTX550 Ti/DI/1GD5 GeForce GTX 550 Ti (Fermi) 1GB 192-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI.

If you need more details let me know, I dont wanna go and spend the money if it is gonna disappoint.
