All you need to know is that the GPU is what processes the graphics of your game.

If you give me how much you're willing to spend I can help you out.
That's the thing. It's not a matter of how much to spend. I was just wondering if Black Friday has any deals anywhere where a machine capable of running games easily is cheaper than normal. I don't have a price range. I was just hoping somebody could tell me the minimum. For a laptop.
I'm sure a deal will appear for a good ASUS laptop.
Sooo... is ASUS good for gaming? Anything bad with the computers Mr. Wargamer and Avenge posted?

Sorry but I'm an idiot when it comes to this stuff, I know nothing about it.
:P
Salty Chip is referring to a gaming laptop while I and Wargamer posted desktop builds that might fit your budget.

Never thought of that.

Looking for a good ATX Intel 1155 Mobo. Won't be overclocking.

Under $150 please.
AsRock Z77 Extreme4

Posted by: Ferrari DuDe856
Ok since you guys were clearly too confused to answer my post let's try something different!!!

If I buy a USB 3.0 header can I just plug it into my MOBO (Asus Formula V Z77) and use it? Any updates or driver that I will have to download?
What's wrong with the one that came with the motherboard? And it's USB hardware, so you don't need drivers.

What's a good manufacturer for a 650 Ti 1 GB?
EVGA = Lifetime warranty, and you can upgrade to a better card for less money.

Posted by: burritosenior
Laptop I mean. OK maybe... -$600?
This would be a much better investment. Skyrim on high around 30 FPS.

Yup, that looks good. Did you get an aftermarket CPU cooler (like the Cooler Master 212+)? Because you have an overclockable CPU along with a motherboard meant for overclocking, so I hope you did. It's fine if you didn't though. You can always add this on at a later time.

Erm... I was actually told otherwise about overclocking and that it decreases the life of all my components. I'm not planning on buying a heat-sink. Are the intel box ones that bad?
Overclocking would decrease the lifespan from 25 years to 20 years (made up numbers). It's so insignificant that you shouldn't care, as long as you don't apply too much voltage.

And yes, Intel stock fans are god-awful.

Hey guys. I installed XP on the 1TB HDD and it worked fine so I turned off my machine. Today when I turned on my computer, it BSoD's while at the screen that shows that XP is loading...is it possible that I somehow corrupted XP? I just switched over to my good hard drive until I find a solution...

I got these cheeseburgers man....

OK guys, this weekend I'm going to Microcenter for parts. I'm buying my parts in chunks, and right now, I have $200 to spend. What would be the best way to budget those parts? IM thinking 3570k, Asrock motherboard, and a Phantom 410 case that's on sale for $50 right now. Sound good? Or should I buy something else?

Wait, the Phantom 410 is $50? Since when? I thought it was $60 (I'm going to Microcenter tomorrow to pick it up)

I could have swore it was $50, but I could be wrong. Still though, what would be the best parts to pick up tomorrow with $200 in my wallet.

The three you mentioned, with the 3570k being on sale with the motherboards, that should work out.

Hello everyone, with Newegg's Black Friday sale in full swing, and after a long year of hard work leaving me with a little extra money, I want to attempt and build my own computer. After browsing Newegg's deals I came up with these major components. I just wanted to know if these were good and compatible and with a good value or if I'm just terrible. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Case
Power Supply
CPU/Motherboard
GPU
SSD

Also, I am a HUGE fan of ASUS which is why many of the components are ASUS made. Also, any recommendations on a disk drive, memory, and a HDD would be great. Again, thank you.

You don't need an SSD unless you plan using them for servers/data bases.
I don't understand why people think they need SSD's.

Because awesome boot times. And SSDs have been falling in price pretty steadily over the last little while, while getting better in performance and longevity. If you look around for promos and sales, you can get a good SSD at a really decent price.

@ShockCommando

Pretty good build. My only suggestion would be to keep an eye out for the new FX 8320 processor if it's on sale. If the price difference between the CPU-Mobo bundle you've got and the 8320 and the CrosshairV separately isn't much, I'd consider going for it.

It's a'me, Sesto

Anyone want post a good $1500 or so build? Planning to build my PC soon, don't know much about parts.

It'll be used to play pretty much any modern game, preferably on high or more settings. So if $1500 isn't enough, feel free to make it between $1500-$2000.

  • 11.22.2012 10:47 AM PDT

Who the hell do you think I am?

In my opinion, there are plenty more important things to dedicate your budget to than an SSD when you're building a computer. It's a cool thing to have, but it really isn't necessary. If starting windows about 20-30 seconds quicker is worth about $100, then by all means go for it.

Change the case to something less expensive, like a $70 case. Don't get that power supply, it's overpriced and too much for your build. Get a seasonic M12II 620W bronze. Change the CPU to an i5 3570k, and the motherboard to a Gigabyte Z77-UD3H. With the money you've saved from getting a less expensive case and power supply you can bump up to a 7850. SSD is fine. Disk drive doesn't matter, just get any good rated $20. G.Skill for memory, and seagate, samsung or western digital for the hard drive.

And from now on, use pcpartpicker.com
