A GOOD graphics card for high end video editing and graphics work, should I go with AMD or NVIDIA?

Well, since all cards from either sides have their counterparts, (save for GTX 58x and higher middle digit cards, which are really quite expensive), price/performance ratios aren't too different between the two.

If you take a look at this article, the cards are pretty much on par with each other for pricing (by the same reseller), although ATI have been known to run a bit cooler, though I'm not sure if that's down to the aftermarket heatsinks they install.

If we based them on the stock ATI/Nvidia heatsinks however, I would say ATI are a bit cooler than Nvidia.

Hey OP!
What do you think of this build?
HDD:1TB(1,000GB)
Ram:8GB
Case:CM690 II
PSU:SeaSonix S1211 620 Bronze 620W
GPU:Nvidia 570 GTX
CPU:i5 2500k
Mobo: Gigabyte GA-268A-D3H
Should i get a higher PSU?

It looks like a pretty solid build, I mean you should only need a larger PSU if you want to add a second card, but one GTX 570 is already plenty of graphics power, I'd say it's fine the way it is.

Should i upgrade it to 1000 Wats?
Because I'm considering having 2 570's in the future.

"Before you insult someone, try walking a mile in their shoes. This way, when you insult them, you are a mile away and have their shoes."

I have something for your FAQ:

-----------------------
Q: My computer turns on after being built, but shuts down instantly after 3 seconds. Why?

A: Be sure to check that all the connectors on your motherboard are plugged in correctly. Some motherboards have an additional connector on the top left of the motherboard. Ensure they are all connected!
-------------------------
Q: My network/graphics card/onboard USB do not work. Why is this?

A: Ensure you have installed all the drivers found on the disc that came with your motherboard or software. It will not work unless you install these after installing your operating system.

Read what I just said.

I don't think you'll need 1000 watts though.

I would go for 750 W.

Looks good. You should also get a CPU cooler (I'd suggest Hyper 212+), and a DVD drive. The one you buy doesn't matter too much, unless you want to play blu-ray movies. But you definitely need one.

And what RAM are you getting? Can you post a link to it?

DVD drive. This doesn't matter too much

Actually, it does matter a lot. Without some form of optical drive (which he seems to be lacking on his list), he wouldn't even be able to install the OS. Because it's on a disc.

I meant the type of DVD/CD drive. Having it is a necessity, the type isn't too important.

Most (if not all) modern optical drives are compatible with DVDs, from $20-$30. However, Blur-ray drives... damn expensive.

Can you find things for AMD and ATI as well?

Sure. What "things" are you referring to? Benchmark tests, is x better than y given z parameters, etc etc.

  • 05.21.2012 12:28 PM PDT

I find you rather shallow and pedantic.

Thread saved.

Oh yeah. Check that the parts you buy are not overpriced.

  • 05.21.2012 12:29 PM PDT

Make a section for less expensive builds, money is diffacult. by inexpensive i mean ~$500.00 (USD)

The stock coolers are all you need if you're not going to overclock, and most of the time you won't need to, since the GPU handles the bulk of the graphics performance, and even then, the stock coolers have ample breathing space for overclocking.

If he does live in a crowded room though, probably.

and a DVD drive. The one you buy doesn't matter too much, unless you want to play blu-ray movies. But you definitely need one.

I think DVD+RW 24x is the modern standard.

Anything to add to the sections that seem to be weighted towards one side. We don't want people to just buy parts from one side.

EXTREMELY helpful tool, shows everything a builder might need and has compatible parts only.
Helpful guide, recommend using.
