Just curious....but why do people even by those quadro cards? They're expensive and hardly give you any power. It just doesn't make any sense.

They aren't for gaming. They run best on programs like CAD.

But if you can a better GPU for the same price that would do the same thing, why wouldn't you?

A specialty card should in theory work better for what it was designed for than something that's technically more powerful (but not specialized). This is mostly because it's setup to deal with certain processes more efficiently, and if what you're working with uses those processes then it's clear the card designed for it would be the better choice.

It's like the saying with any computer goes, it's a really fast retard who is good at doing what he is told to do. The specialty card will point said retard in the right direction.

Also, is Windows 7 OEM shipped on a disc?

Yes.

Drecker225 is awesome and doesn't afraid of anything.

I cannot wait for the day when I gain control of the world.

I want a 7950 but I've got no money. Wat do.

I do actually have a question though, I just don't know how to ask it. With AMD's GPU naming system, are GPUs with the same last two numbers the same length? For example, the 6850 (what I have right now) barely fits in my case. If I wanted to upgrade to a 7950, would the new card fit the same since both share the same last two digits (50)?

I don't believe so.

The first number is the card generation. The second is the performance class within that generation, and the last two just refer to the specific model in that class.

Oh alrighty. My friend who thinks everything he says is the word of god told me that, and I wasn't so sure it was true. It would be handy though so I wouldn't have to look up GPU lengths whenever I want to upgrade.

But in any case, the 7950 should fit in my case and my PSU definitely has enough juice to run it. I just need the cash :P

Thanks, but I will stick with my setup. And why are you going around saying the GTX580 is better than the GTX670? What makes it better??

The 7950 should fit in there. GPUs now a days are around the same length.

You can hardly even tell a performance difference between the 580 and 670. The 580 is $100-$200 cheaper.

Benchmarks? I find that the 670 gets 10+ frames more than the 580, plus it consumes FAR less power. Linky.

Just saying, but I use Passmark's GPU benchmarks list.

Can someone please give me the ABSOLUTE best build out there for $600? I don't know anything about computers so a video would be nice as well. I don't know the difference between Intel or AMD.

Some one please educate me

I'll link you a build in a little bit.

Does the $600 price range need to include an OS?

Ok so I built a computer a few months ago. For my graphics card I got a GTX550TI, its ok for a medium priced card. In a few weeks I will have enough money to buy a GTX670. Anyway I was wondering what you guys thought of this card and how much of a step up (In graphics) it would be from the GTX550ti to the GTX670.

Don't get the 670. Get the 580. It's a lot cheaper and is almost as good as the 670. You literally won't see a difference between the 2 besides the price.

Just trying to help you save your money.
:)
Well, the one you linked is from a cheapie manufacturer, but comparing prices between the two with a big-name manufacturer, you'll find that the 670 is usually quite a bit cheaper than the 580, with quite a bit more performance.

For an example, I'll use EVGA. They're right up there in terms of quality, and often a gamer's choice when it comes to Nvidia cards.

Here are EVGA's base models of both cards:
GTX 580Performance
512 CUDA Cores
772 MHz GPU
1544MHz Shader Clock

Memory
1536 MB, 384 bit
4008 MHz (effective)
192.4 GB/s Memory Bandwidth

Interface
PCI-E 2.0 16x
DVI-I, DVI-I, Mini-HDMI
SLI Capable

Price
$439.99

GTX 670Performance
1344 CUDA Cores
915 MHz GPU
980MHz Boost Clock

Memory
2048 MB, 256 bit
6008 MHz (effective)
192.26 GB/s Memory Bandwidth

Interface
PCI-E 3.0 16x
DVI-I, DVI-D, HDMI, Display-Port
SLI Capable

Price
$399.99

Alright, just finished my build for the summer. I just need to load a little bit more software on it and it should be good to go for actual use. It was my splurge for the summer so the price was pretty pricey, and my philosophy of overkill over underkill shined through.

CPU - Intel i7 3770K
GPU - 2 x GTX 670 4 GB
PSU - 1050 Watt Corsair
SSD - SanDisk 120 GB Extreme
HDD - 1 TB SATA 3.0, 64 MB cache
MOB - ASUS Sabertooth Z77
RAM - 16 GB x G.Skill 1600
Heatsink - Hyper 212 Plus CoolMaster
Case - THOR V2
OS - Windows 7 Professional 64-bit OEM
CD - Toshiba Blu-ray drive

I guess pictures will be on demand?

However, I won't be able to push the system hard yet because of the break-in period for the CPU's thermal paste. Better safe than sorry. In total, the entire computer weighs in close to 50-60 lbs.

There's a difference between movie producing and gaming.

It's professional hardware developed for specific purpose.

Hey OP!
What do you think of this build?
HDD:1TB(1,000GB)
Ram:8GB
Case:CM690 II
PSU:SeaSonix S1211 620 Bronze 620W
GPU:Nvidia 570 GTX
CPU:i5 2500k
Mobo: Gigabyte GA-268A-D3H
Should i get a higher PSU?

Depends, do you want to upgrade? This card would last you a long time anyway

Overkill, for sure, but I love it! Nice going!

What did all of that come to?

And yes, pics.

It came to about $2400 with all the promos and discounts added in. The GPU cards were the most expensive parts in the build.

Here are the (albeit terrible) pictures:

http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/gg94/CostlyAxis/IMAG0157.j pg

The fan knobs on the case don't actually do anything because I gave control to the motherboard.

Axis, that's awesome! It'll look very sexy once you've cleaned up the cables and such (assuming you were going to, that is) ;P

Wow, that sounded bad, I'm not at all saying it isn't already very sexy =P

About the only cable I couldn't clean up was the power cable for the CPU because the cable was too short to reach around the back. I also reworked the fan cables around to the recommended arrangement the motherboard specified.

Heh. Not that it matters too much, anyway. It'd only really be an issue if any of it were in the way of a fan or something, which didn't seem to be the case.

But yeah, that's some money well spent, nice work! ;D
