I was considering upgrading my motherboard to the P8Z68, but I think I'll wait for a couple years to get Haswell, since Broadwell or whatever it is coming after it will possibly be soldered onto the motherboards, but who knows.

The 2011 socket Broadwell CPUs won't be soldered onto the motherboard.

Looks like socket 2011 is the new gaming standard! Lol
Socket 2011 is that monster i7 socket, right? Possibly future intel processors as well?

Yup....socket 2011 is the highest end of Intel CPUs.

Socket 2011 will have a long life span....like socket 1366. Socket 1366 was introduced years ago and it's still in use today....and it most likely will continue to be used for many more years to come.

So if socket 1366 has had such a long life span so far....imagine how long of a life span socket 2011 will have. It'll be a long time before socket 2011 dies off.

God damn it intel, why? WHY?! I guess a 2011 i7 will have to do for a while, until getting an AMD rig is necessary.

Too many links to read, but have the confirmed that the next socket line will use BGA, or are they just speculating? I remember reading on /g/ a while ago that there was still a chance Intel might still release an LGA version of their new processors.

Okay, whenever I turn it on, the fans and lights turn on, but the monitor just stays in standby mode and I don't see the BIOS popping up. Can someone take a look and see if I did anything wrong?

Yeah, but nodody uses 1366 for a gaming build. 2011 does have the continued lifespan for now, but like in the links Fluffy posted the later 2011 CPUs could be irreplaceable. But it's not for certain, so we'll just have to wait and see.

First off, the cables. Please fix them.

Make sure that you have the HDMI / DVI plugged into the GPU, although it would still work on integrated.

Check the setting that the monitor is on. Try the power button and then switching modes.

Your GPU might not be seated correctly.

Are the RAM sticks pushed in all the way?

Did anything else come unplugged accidentally?

Try plugging the monitor into the motherboard instead of your graphics card and see if something pops up then.

Okay, I'm starting to lean towards the idea that I have a defective piece.

I've plugged the cord into the monitor and motherboard, nothing.

I've tried using 1 stick of RAM on both sticks, nothing.

Everything HAS to be plugged in right.

I tried clearing the CMOS and all that happened was red lights appeared on the motherboard and it started going and stopping repeatedly.

I can turn it on, but I can't turn it off without either holding the power button or flipping the PSU off.

I don't know if a peice is defective, and which one if it is.

Well, let's look at the essentials that are needed to run the computer:

CPU
Mobo
RAM
PSU

Try taking those things out and running it. It sounds like it might be your CPU to be honest.

Hello, I need some help with a good screen.
I use a TV that is hooked up to my PC, XBOX, and Cable, and am thinking about getting an upgrade.
Anyway I'm looking for a good HDTV for relatively cheap, around about 20". Just something with a good screen that will make games run gorgeous. Any help would be much appreciated. :)

I can't find a 20" HDTV but this might suffice, it's 19" 720p.

Or, do you want a monitor? You can get a nice 1080p 23"-24" monitor for that price. Oh, since you mentioned cable, that leaves monitors out of the picture.

Like I've said before, there's still AMD.
I highly doubt AMD will be able to make a comeback. People who know nothing about computers who try to build one will purchase Intel because they see it plastered everywhere. People who know a lot about computers and have a good budget will purchase Intel because it is better than AMD. This leaves AMD with the market of "people who know what they want, have done their research, and don't have enough money for a high-end computer." Unless AMD can somehow come out with a processor better than the i7, they'll be behind for a while.

And it's not like this is a bad thing. Like the articles stated, having the items already soldered will make them cheaper. People rarely upgrade their motherboards unless they need a new chipset anyway, unless they cheaped out on their original components.

I would have just gotten a Deathadder or something and a cheap $10 keyboard, but it's nice to have backups.

The new Deathadder 2013 edition looks pretty damn cool :D I may have to go from my ol' 3500 to this one.

I mean, among enthusiasts. AMD would be able to make a comeback. They'll have processors with significant performance boosts at the time Broadwell will be released.

If AMD CPUs perform better with games in the future, then I would consider trying one of them but presently Intel is still in the lead.

At least we know that AMD is REALLY trying to compete....with the new FX lineup and all....and with the 8350 being as powerful as the 3570k.

I think that Intel will still have the better and more powerful CPUs, but AMD will be right there behind them with only minor performance differences.

  • 12.04.2012 6:38 PM PDT

MLP: FiM Master Moderator: | Homepage | My Steam Profile | My Computer |

My major issue with AMD is that, at least before the FX lineup, even an i3 would beat their phenom processors, and the big brands focused on improving Intel motherboards rather than AMD motherboards. In the future, ASUS, MSI, EVGA, AsRock, Gigabyte, and all of those other people will still make the boards that Intel uses for their soldered chips.

Is AMD really that bad compared to modern intel?
