Is it possible to take a laptop SATA drive and use it in a new desktop that I'm building? The drive is a Toshiba mk3255gsx.

I don't see why not. It has a SATA interface, and then you just supply it with power.

Yes. I did that with my ragtag Hackintosh yesterday.

What's a Hackintosh?

It's a custom built computer that uses parts that are compatible with Mac OS X's hardware limitations. You have to do a bit of computer magic to install it, but if you pick your parts right, you can have a Mac Pro killer at half the cost running OS X.

It'll work perfectly. You may need to buy a mounting bracket to fit it properly into your case's hard drive slots, but those are $10 at any computer store. Two minutes with a screwdriver and you're done.

My NZXT case came with a 2.5inch to 3.5inch adapter, and their cases are pretty cool, NZXT is worth considering, but don't let my opinion be the last of it.

Ah, the internet. Where men are men, women are men, and children are the FBI.

Thank you all who contributed to this thread/answered my questions. Finally got my build finished (mostly). Just need to put in the OS, load up other various software, and work on my cable management.
First step in making my battlestation look at least a tad modern.

Would this build be sufficient in power/wattage?

And would it handle most games on high?

You can do it with parts that are supposedly incompatible, but my IT Technician got it to run stable on an AMD AM3

I did that the other day, still very messy though. the NZXT case's gromited holes aren't large enough for all the wires, so there's still a large amount of wires resting on the bottom of the case, my PSU wasn't modular.

They can't. The only socket that can so far is LGA2011. The desktop processors available for that socket are the i7 3820, 3930k and the 3960x.
