Cheap mechanical keyboard.

Mouse guide.

I'd suggest the Deathadder if you want a larger mouse or the G9x if you want a smaller one. I posted the MW3 version because the regular version is $70. You can remove the logo with some rubbing alcohol and you can change the LED light colors with the drivers.
Damn, that's a bargain for the keyboard.

As for the mouse, I'm happy with my Logitech G400.

If you want a Quad SLI GTX 690's and i7 3970X, that would cost you around 5,000$ just for these components.

Yeah, you only need a gaming rig between $800-$1500 to get a decent experience

Anyway, you should check these guys out if you want a customisable mechanical keyboard.

You can't do quad SLI 690s, it's alreay technically two SLI'd 680s. Just saying.

And prototype, you have to be more specific. Do you want to be able to support triple monitors? Are you just gaming, or doing more?

I made this. It deleted my other two GTX 690's for some reason though.

What are the pros and cons of a mechanical vs. a rubber dome keyboard? Which is better for gaming? For regular typing?

Mechanical > rubber dome in all areas.

Gaming, typing, durability. The only con I can think of is price.

I've heard that they have an extremely audible click, and that the travel to actually register is greater? Any truth in this?

People love the audible click. Well, to be honest, it's dependant on the switch type.

You can refer to this guide.

No, the travel is shorter. Here's a guide to mechanical keyboards and their different switches towards the bottom

Basically, blacks are best for gaming, blues for typing and brown for both of them. Any mechanical keyboard is infinitely better than a membrane keyboard.

If I do a lot of gaming, a lot of internet surfing, and the occasional
essay, what would I want to get? I assume brown or black?

I'd say go for Brown.

The black switches lack the tactile bump of the browns.

^ And the blacks are heavier than the browns

I love the feel of the browns. It is hard to tell if you haven't tried any of the switches, but I tried blues and blacks once and I like the browns better. I post on forums a lot and game, so they accommodate me well.

So I should shop on Newegg for a keyboard with browns?
