I was looking through the software on my computer earlier and noticed a "Dell Audio Center". Anyway, within it had a setting called "SRS Premium Sound HD" which was disabled by default. I turned it on... and my god.

Everything is so clear! I can't believe it was disabled to begin with. Everything just sounds so much better.

I thought the speakers themselves were bad, but I guess it was the software?

Overkill, for sure, but I love it! Nice going!

What did all of that come to?

And yes, pics.

It came to about $2400 with all the promos and discounts added in. The GPU cards were the most expensive parts in the build.

Here are the (albeit terrible) pictures:

The fan knobs on the case don't actually do anything because I gave control to the motherboard.

He has quad channel RAM, and said he is using a 3770K. >.<

How do people have quad channel RAM is for say a i7 3770K which only supports dual channel RAM?
They can't. The only socket that can so far is LGA2011. The desktop processors available for that socket are the i7 3820, 3930k and the 3960x.

And the 3770 and 3770k.

My build so far.. Definitely subject to change.
Monitor
Case
Motherboard
Processor
Power Supply
RAM
DVD Drive
Video Card

I have a HDD from the computer I'm on right now. Total adds up to ~$650. Thoughts/Opinions?

GPU is kinda weak.

For less than $50 more, you can grab a 6850. It'll handle games much better than a 6670.

Another question what does the sad caching feature on some motherboards do, and what is a hot-swappable drive bay

Disclaimer, I don't plan on doing very much gaming (maybe a little bit of SC2). I am mainly just building it because I can.

SSD Caching means that you can set an SSD to store some recently accessed data or instructions for a standard HHD.

Hot swapping refers to yanking out a hard drive while the PC is still running, and putting in a different one.

You don't need a motherboard with those options for gaming or everyday use.

Swap out that case for this case. It looks nicer and is the same price (with shipping added on).
Swap out that CPU for this CPU.
You will need to be get this motherboard if you are going to use the CPU I linked.
With the money you save from going with the motherboard and CPU that I linked, you will be able to buy this RAM.
And lastly, swap out that GPU with this GPU.

I believe your build is now a bit cheaper (maybe?), and is more powerful.

You are welcome.
:)

Case is staying. One of the only things that I'm set on. I want it to be really quiet. I might consider changing if you would explain some of your other ideas. I also don't think I need 8 GB of RAM. I've had 4 GB for the last 4 years and it works great for what I need.

I'd like to see your reasons on the CPU/motherboard.

The CPU is better than the one that you chose, and if you used the motherboard that you already had chosen, it wouldn't be compatible, so I had to choose a new one.

The only reason why I put 8GB of RAM in there is because of the money that you would save if you went with the CPU and motherboard that I chose.

As for the case, the one I chose is bigger (so you will get better ventilation), it looks nicer, and imo it's just overall better. Your build will still be quiet.

Guys, would you play BF3 on low, and get >60 fps all day, every day.
On Medium, and get between 40-60 depending on how many attack helos are firing at you...
Or on high, with 25-35 frames?

If I could get those frames, then High.
I'm satisfied with having at least 25.

I'll be getting a High-end ATI card soon, so I'm hoping to be playing high with ~50 frames soonish.

He wanted reasons, so I gave him reasons.

In all honesty, the parts I linked him are more powerful than his build, and I think it's cheaper (didn't do the math). That right there should be good enough.

Don't you want the most power for your build for your budget?

I'm confus

It's only Dual Channel, and Dual Channel can be configured for four RAM cards so that you use them all. It's not combining all four cards into one entity, but rather two.

From my knowledge, none of the Ivy Bridge processors currently support Quad Channel memory. The only cost of going back to Sandy Bridge (where the top-of-the-line CPUs do support Quad Channel) is that they don't support PCI-e 3.0.
