No problemo ^^

And yeah, you'll have about 15mm between your PSU and card, I'm pretty sure. should work.

I just checked as well. 35mm is larger than 0.6"

Thanks :3

I can't find any ATX mini towers that have 2.5" bays. Is there a work around to this? Would it be possible to somehow fit a 2.5" SSD in a 3.5" bay?

Why are you looking at Micro-ATX towers? Most mid-tower cases support Micro-ATX. More to your question though, most cases support 2.5" drives in the 3.5" drive bays. Just make sure it says if you can use the 3.5" drive bay for a 2.5" drive.

I'm looking at ATX mini towers, not micro-ATX towers. I need the smaller form factor, as my current PC was made pretty small, and I'm working with the same amount of space. I'm having an especially hard time with depth; a 14" desk (in depth) is what it needs to sit on.

edit: After checking exactly how much space a motherboard takes, 14" is definitely not enough. Damn.

The only other space I have is 18" deep, 11" wide, and 17" high, and that's not counting breathing room on the top.

The interface is the same, doesn't even have to be compatible, just needs a power feed and a sata cable, you could have it dangling out of your PC if you wanted to.

But if you want it to be inside your case and not moving, you can buy 2.5" to 3.5" brackets.

Okay:

Firstly, why not double up on your GPU? Am I missing something? Surely that would be a relatively cheap and easy upgrade to do in say 5 years time rather than a whole new build?

Secondly, what is good about your motherboard (or what is bad about mine)? I'll be honest and admit that motherboards are the parts I have researched the least, so I went with a mid-tier one, and avoided going for the cheapest.
With multi-GPU, you get micro-stuttering, compatibility issues, bad airflow, higher temps, and a power hungry mofo. Too much goes wrong with SLI & Crossfire technologies, although it is slowly improving.

Regarding the mobo, you went with a Micro-ATX form factor. That's not necessarily bad, but in a gaming computer, you want to go with full ATX for the extra space, fan headers, I/O ports, etc.

My biggest problem is that they don't even let them share memory yet.

This is my revised build.

If you were to upgrade in the future, how much of a performance boost would going for an i7 provide?

I'm looking for a build that will last a while and would be easy to upgrade in the future.

Or would adding another GTX670 provide more of a boost?
An i7 would not help at all.

Never go multi-GPU.

Your HDD is slow. Get something that's 7200 RPM.

On the PSU side, I'd recommend something modular.

Motherboard is mATX, not good. Get this instead. Cheaper, better, and comes with a free 16GB USB stick.

Okay.

I've made a few changes based on what your recommended.

Actually saved about £25 too, so thanks for that.

I used NewEgg's power calculator, and it came to 508w (it didn't have the GTX670 on there so I over compensated with the GTX680 instead)

Also, I bought this keyboard for my build the other day, which uses backlights on the keyboard itself...

...will that need to be taken into account with the power supply (I'm guessing not, as it would be insignificant usage)

Who the hell do you think I am?

Anyone know if this CPU cooler will come with thermal paste already applied?

There we go, nice solid build right there. Everything is fine.

Crap

Do you think they would sell thermal paste at radioshack or somewhere? Or do I HAVE to order it online?

Cheers dude.

I'll be honest - building this rig has taken months and has been hella-fun.

Wish I'd switched to PC gaming a lot sooner :)

Also: I'll be posting pics soon as I've started buying the parts. Just bought the case and am waiting patiently at work for it to be delivered...

Ok, so I'm trying to pick out a new graphics card, and I just can't decide between 2. I'm going to either get the 6950 and flash the BIOS to a 6970, or a GTX 570. Which one would give me the best performance?

The Hyper 212 Plus? It comes with a thing of thermal paste.

Flashing a card to be something else sounds like the more risky decision.

I know that, but the 6950 has two BIOS's, so if you screw up one, you can restore to the other. But, which one would actually give better performance?

GTX 570 apparently outperforms the Radeon HD 6970.

Here is my situation

>I have a windows 7 upgrade disk that will work with vista or xp.
>I have not been able to find the former windows vista disk that the upgrade disk was used upon.
>I want to save the most money possible in this situation, because my build has drained my bank account.

Would it make sense to buy the cheapest version of windows vista, clean install it on my new PC, and then immediately pop in the upgrade disk?

Or would it just be smarter to go out and spend a little more than vista and get a clean install of windows 7?

Clean install of 7. OEM versions are cheaper, but can only install to one machine. Go with that.

Can someone help real quick? I have an ATX case and mobo. I'm trying to connect the power button on the front panel to the mobo. The connector cable on the case for this has two pins that go together, but on the mobo there is only one pin that is labeled power switch and the ones next to it are both labeled GND. What do I do?

  • 07.10.2012 10:27 PM PDT

Something should be in one of the manuals.. Check the one for the mobo. Also, if you could imgur a few pics that would help.

  • 07.10.2012 10:30 PM PDT

I checked the manual, it matches what's on the mobo.

It goes like this:

1234
56789

1 - pled+
2- pled-
3-power button
4- GND
5- HD LED+
6- HD LED-
7- GND
8- Reset
9- Dummy

I already have HDLEDs and the PLEDs connected. I don't even know what GND is for. It doesn't say in the manual.

Vista is garbage, I would skip it altogether. Either get 7, or live with XP for a while. I'm assuming you want Windows but Linux is always a great option, and it's free. (I would recommend Ubuntu)

Maybe you don't have those wires on your front panel, in which case, you probably don't need them.

I actually have no idea what it is either.

Nvm , I just read what you typed above, disregard what I just said, I don't think my power button said "GND"

There should be a red wire and a black/white one, I think it was the black/white that goes in the "-" and the red goes to "+"
