I posted this on Reddit, earlier and just wanted a second opinion, thanks Flood.
My current PC is an older system that was store bought. I have upgraded the RAM and video card in it, and until recently it did almost everything I needed it too. I pretty much only play Minecraft on it and it does fine, but then Steam Summer Sales hit... Now I'm the proud owner of games like; Saints Row The Third, Skyrim, New Vegas, Brink, Arma 2 and others. I can't run any of them and I'm looking to either upgrade again or if I have to start fresh.
Using "canyourunit.com" I have established that its mainly my ancient processor. But with the very basic computer knowledge I have, I have come to understand that if I buy a new CPU, I'll could have to change motherboards, and then probably RAM aswell.
I would greatly appreciate any help that you could offer! Heres my specs (If you need anything else I could try to gather more info):
CPU: AMD Anthlon 64 3500+ 2200 MHz
MOBO: ASUSTek Computer INC, Amberine M
GPU: Nvidia GeForce 8400 GS
RAM: ~2.5gb of DDR
Hard Drive: 500gb
Should I upgrade CPU and try to keep the same socket type(or whatever its called) with my MOBO? Or should I just redo the system? I'm willing to spend a fair amount of money. And if you guys could help recommend some parts that would be amazing.
On Reddit a kind man suggested that I build a new rig. This is what he suggested:
CPU Intel Core i3-2120 3.3GHz Dual-Core Processor $119.00
Motherboard ASRock H61M/U3S3 Micro ATX LGA1155 $66.99
Memory G.Skill Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1333 $43.99
Hard Drive Crucial M4 128GB 2.5" Solid State Disk $114.99
Video Card HIS Radeon HD 6870 1GB Video Card $159.99
Case Fractal Design Core 1000 MicroATX Mini Tower $39.99
Power Supply PC Power & Cooling 500W ATX12V Power Supply $75.98
Total:$590.47
So should I attempt to improve my build? Or start new? Should I go with his, and can you guys make any improvements to his build? And lastly the thing I see with his build is he says to get a SSD, are they even worth it?
Sorry for the large post and generally disorganized manner I wrote it in.
