Who the hell do you think I am?

You could build a computer on pcpartpicker with the same parts of an alienware and it would literally be half the price.

Who the hell do you think I am?

A laptop you say?

ASUS makes great gaming laptops.

Welp, I'm back from vacation.

Hope I didn't miss too much.

Sorry, I'm Playing Ghostbusters 2 on Nintendo!

Gonna build this.
It's cheap and good enough, but is it able to run GTA IV or Minecraft 30 - 60 FPS on Normal?

If I don't believe in him...

why should he believe in me?

Hey guys, so anyway, after going on cyberpowerpc.com again, i got myself a build, but the only problem is that it costs 1500 WITHOUT monitor and mouse....

how can I get this to be cheaper without sacrificing performance? Also, is there anything that is either incompatible or unneccessary?

CAS:Thermaltake Chaser MK-1 Full Tower Gaming Case W/ Side Panel Window
(I know its an expensive case, but it has really good airflow, plus its aesthetically pleasing to the eye IMO. I would have to research another case before getting a cheaper one)

CD:24X Double Layer Dual Format DVD+-R/+-RW + CD-R/RW Drive

CPU:Intel Core i5-3570K 3.40 GHz 6MB Intel Smart Cache LGA1155
Could I possibly go for a lower processor without sacrificing my gaming experience?

FAN:Asetek 510LC Liquid Cooling System 120MM Radiator & Fan

FLASHMEDIA:INTERNAL 12in1 Flash Media Reader/Writer

HDD:1TB SATA-III 6.0Gb/s 32MB Cache 7200RPM HDD
Downgrading the HDD to 500 only costs 20 bucks less...

IUSB:Built-in USB 2.0 Ports

MEMORY:8GB (2GBx4) DDR3/1600MHz Dual Channel Memory

MOTHERBOARD: [CrossFireX] GIGABYTE GA-Z77-D3H Intel Z77 Chipset DDR3 ATX
Mainboard w/ IRST, Lucid Virtu MVP, Ultra Durable4 Classic, 7.1 HD Audio, GbLAN,
2x Gen3 PCIe x16, 3x PCIe x1 & 2 PCI (Extreme OC Certified)
(Is this MOBO good? Its the cheapest I could find on cyberpower)

OS:Microsoft® Windows 7 Home Premium

POWERSUPPLY: 850 Watts - Cooler Master Silent Pro Hybrid 80 Plus Gold Power
Supply

SOFT:Microsoft Office 2010 Home and Student (Word, Excel, PowerPoint +
OneNote)

I have a question about openoffice.org....does it implement the same file types as MS office? I am also using this computer for at least the 4 years im in college, so this is really important

SOUND:Creative Labs SB Audigy SE PCI Sound Card

VIDEO:AMD Radeon HD 7850 2GB 16X PCIe 3.0 Video Card

PCI Wireless 802.11n 150Mbps Network Interface Card

Any help would be nice, the overall price of the build cant be more than 1500, which doesn't include the monitor for $170

If there is anyway i could slash off 170 dollars off the build, could you help me?

Thinking about getting another 560 to SLI. Does anyone here know the performance I would get on Battlefield 3/Skryim with 2 560s? With one, i get about 40-60 with ultra settings.

You could downgrade the processor a bit to an i5 3550, no over clocking. That way you'll save money there, and also wouldn't need an aftermarket CPU cooler which will also save money. Sure you won't be able to "max" out your games, but you'll still get near maxed out quality. In short, the difference in performance is negligible compared to the savings. IMO (and from what I've seen in research myself. Cannot speak from experience though.)

edit: Also, OpenOffice does use the same formats as Word, i.e. you can save a document as "Word" and save a slideshow as "Powerpoint".

Nope the parts are -blam!-. My friend went through 5 alianwares in a year once before leaving them. Always a RAM -blam!-up or something like that. And he is a HUGE tech nerd so he knows how to take care of them.

i'd start out by dropping the sound card cuz it really isnt necessary and you can buy it at any time later on. Also, the liquid cooling is not a must that can be bought later as well, especially with such a large case. since you dont have those you can also downgrade the PSU; i have 650 i think along with a liquid cooling system and it works fine so a 650-700 would be enough unless you plan on adding a second GPU but again, it can be bought later.

I was also going to suggest a mid-tower case but since you like that its okay i guess. However might i suggest the cyberpower phantom 410? it has a sleek design and has 3 built in fans and 2 USB3 and 2 USB2 built in as well as good ventilation.

He must have been messing up with something.
Everyone i've spoken to has had their Alienwares for over a year and a half and have all said they're great.
Except for the fact that you could probably find an identical laptop/desktop for literally almost half the price.

You could drop the processor down a little and lose the CPU cooler, or you could just not overclock the processor a lot and drop the CPU cooler. The power supply seems like a bit much, unless you're gonna crossfire later on, and if you really need to save the money, just use OpenOffice or another free office program. The sound card can be added in later as well.

You can overclock parts in a laptop....it's no different than with a desktop. I've overclocked my GPU before....and I even own a laptop for gaming (inb4 hate...I know, I know).

Figured I'd just stop by and drop some knowledge.

If you're looking for a nice, cheap PC yet aren't completely sure of your computer building skills and want to get a pre-built; check out Craigslist. Yes, it's sketchy. Yes, there could be something installed on that computer that you're unaware of, but the PC's there are usually hella cheap and hella good.

Nein

I say if you're going to buy a pre-built, buy them from CyberPowerPC. Their prices are around the same as Newegg....seriously.

Make a mock build, build it on CyberPowerPC, then build it on Newegg. They're around the same price.

Don't do the 680, I've heard that the performance gain isn't justifiable going up from the 670, people in this thread even told me that.
