Don't do the 680, I've heard that the performance gain isn't justifiable going up from the 670, people in this thread even told me that.

I know. I probably won't do it.

I got these cheeseburgers man....

Wait, holy hell, are out SLIing 670s? That's some huge ass power you're gonna have there.

I still get frame dips in Bethesda games...

And what is the performance difference between PCIe 3.0 SLi dual 16x and PCIe 3.0 SLi dual x8?

I don't think you can SLI and still get the x16 performance (or at least I don't), but if you're on PCIe 3.0, the x8 is the same in terms of bandwidth.

Any idea why you get the dips?

Probably bad optimization on the code end for the game(s). They usually occur when I'm looking into the distance. Skyrim isn't as bad though, but Fallout New Vegas on the other hand.

That's what I figured. And I've heard a lot of buggy things about new Vegas, it doesn't surprise me.

  • 07.23.2012 6:46 PM PDT

Who the hell do you think I am?

You wont need a 1000+ PSU for a build like that, Ferrari Dude.

Here's a very handy PSU calculator to determine what type of PSU you should get.

Also, I don't know what you intend to do with that build exactly, but if you're just gaming I don't think you'll a CPU that powerful. An i7 2600K would be more than enough for just gaming.

Otherwise, nice build.

That feel when the external build worked fine...

...but the internal build just stares at you when you turn it on.

Urgh. Back I go.

You have any idea what's wrong?

Honestly? No.

It's obviously due to something I've wired wrong. Like I said I externally built it as per the New Egg videos on Youtube, and it worked fine.

I won't have time over the next few days either until Friday to have another look at it either. Maybe a fresh set of eyes then would help.

Okay, my LED / Audio / PWR cabling isn't labelled. The pins on the MOBO say + or -, but the cables aren't labelled.

I was guessing that the colours meant something...but I can't see an explanation.

What kind of gaming laptop can I build with $5K?

  • 07.24.2012 7:02 AM PDT

Might not get any help here, but it seems like my computer is acting up.
When I connect to my hub through wireless, everything is fine... but when I connect to my hub wired, I can't load skype and sometimes webpages "Close connection" before sending data.

Anyone help?

Hello Flood, I'm getting a laptop for free (School related) and I get to choose between an Acer 5551-2036 or the HP Pavilion G6-2112HE

What would you say is the better computer?

I would like to see what you guys rated each: Some gaming, general speed, Greater reliability/durability, and heat produced by the laptop. and which is better in general.

stay away from that man, it'll break within the year. Acers are really unreliable.

The HP has better specs. Buy that.

Never a bad thing to have too much power? I may do some SLi stupidness if I get a real job in a year or two (Working ~7 hours a day with my Dad earning $30 doesn't do lol).

I want PCIe 3.0 capabilities. IDGAF if it has minimal performance differences.

Plus a good PSU is future proof.

@costly look on ASUS's website it says the P8Z77WS can provide 2 PCIe 3.0 16x lanes, or 2 8x with 1 16x, or 4 8x. If the performance is minimal I may go with a lower end MOBO.

@Above HP blows. I'm on a HP Pavilion g6 with the AMD A6-3400M CPU. It crashed with in 3 months of having it. ALthough I'm sure the i3 is better then ant AMD CPU.

I'd say Acer's are more reliable than HPs.

Why is 6 afraid of 7? Because Bungie kicks ass.

Will the i3-2120 bottleneck the Radeon 6950?

I've been messing around with the components of my first gaming build for about a week, and I think it's nearing completion. This is one pressing problem though, and I'm not quite sure of the answer. Help?

I had a what if idea today. What if you got a cooler/mini fridge and put your radiators in it? Is it possible to get a CPU too cool?

Fancy board. Mine is the SABERTOOTH Z77 which only does x8 dual.

The only thing I can think of is to look up the drivers for your motherboard. Particularly those for your LAN, and update them.

Sounds a little odd, but I don't think it will work out.

Okay, thanks. Could I go with the i5-3470 then?
