Hello Flood, I'm getting a laptop for free (School related) and I get to choose between an Acer 5551-2036 or the HP Pavilion G6-2112HE

What would you say is the better computer?

I would like to see what you guys rated each: Some gaming, general speed, Greater reliability/durability, and heat produced by the laptop. and which is better in general.
>Acer

stay away from that man, it'll break within the year. Acers are really unreliable.
I'm posting on an eMachines laptop right now(they're owned by Acer), and it's been pretty darn durable considering what I've put it through in the 3 years I've had it. But, for the original quote, the HP has better specs, but I've never really used an HP ever, except for the few times I use my sisters.

Will the i3-2120 bottleneck the Radeon 6950?

I've been messing around with the components of my first gaming build for about a week, and I think it's nearing completion. This is one pressing problem though, and I'm not quite sure of the answer. Help?

Yes, it would.

Okay, thanks. Could I go with the i5-3470 then?

Yes, that's an awesome CPU. You can't overclock it though.

That feel when the external build worked fine...

...but the internal build just stares at you when you turn it on.

Urgh. Back I go.

Hi guys.

Just reposting this again as I rewired the whole rig last night and still got no power.

Are there any common issues that may be the problem? Like I said the external build worked fine but when I press the power button nothing happens now.

I'm really lost for what to do. I was thinking about gutting the build and redoing the external build again as I knew it worked and if it doesn't work this time around I'll know something has broken along the way...

Any advice would be appreciated.

How did you start it up while doing the external build? Does starting it that way still work?

I had a what if idea today. What if you got a cooler/mini fridge and put your radiators in it? Is it possible to get a CPU too cool?

Sounds a little odd, but I don't think it will work out.

Care to explain? As long as the water is flowing it shouldn't freeze. Even if it would you could turn the temp above freezing.

Well some motherboards have a power button on them so as long as psu and such is connected they work fine out of the case

Not quite - I used a screwdriver to jump-start the motherboard like this New Egg tutorial shows (see 14:00 onwards).

You basically short the power connector with the screwdriver (as there is no physical power on button to press).

This 'external' build worked...but pressing the actual power button doesn't.

I'll re-do this external basic build. If it works, I know the error is mine. If it doesn't, then I'll know that something has broken.

So I decided to hold off on a laptop until next year when I can get better student discounts, but I need a computer for school work and maybe some entertainment. There was a really good deal on newegg today so I decided to jump and get the whole shabang. I didn't buy a video card though because it has integrated intel graphics and I don't have the money yet. But tell me if I done somewhat good.

PARTS

I'm not too familiar with overclocking of processors (no idea what it does) but I'll look into it when I can get a graphics card and a better heatsink fan. I don't even know if the mobo allows for overclocking but whateva. fan. I don't even know if the mobo allows for overclocking but whateva.

I'll be receiving all the parts in a couple days so I'll probably be posting periodically for help since this is my first build.

If the fans don't spin, it could just be the front panel's power button wiring.

Try switching the negative and positive around

Overclocking really isn't nessecary and only shortens your processor life, chances are it's not going to do much difference on a modern game

Anyone have preferred AMD GPU manufacturers? I'm currently looking at the 7870 Ghz (or simply cross-firing basic 7870s, but getting the second GPU at a later date when I can afford it), or going all the way for the 7950. But prices vary so greatly between manufacturers.

I personally prefer Sapphire and MSI. I've heard good things about Gigabyte, ASUS, and HIS though.

I've heard Sager has some good stuff. I never saw the point in a gaming laptop though...

The TV I use for my PC can only display up to 30 FPS and every game looks just fine to me.

But then again, I've never played a game at any higher than 30 FPS...

Do I really need a 3rd party cooling solution? I've done some research that the Intel fan would be sufficient if you do not intend to overclock the CPU (which I won't).

No, it was a typo.

It's actually the GTX 670.
