GO ask a real computer website. None of us are that great. Like tomshardware is a good place to start.

Speak for yourself

I can answer almost any question here.
Plus this is actually the most helpful forum without being belittling to the people asking. Alot of hardware websites can be like
"WOW you REALLY don't know.."

WOW you REALLY don't know.....what you're talking about.

Anyone can be good at troubleshooting if they just Google a little, that's the only reason I'm good at it.

Okay, Floodians. I need a bit of help. My mom's laptop crapped out on us recently, so now my family of five is running on my Toshiba Satellite for everything from work to entertainment. I've been wanting to build a decent desktop for awhile now, so I figure now is as good a time as any. The problem is, I'm not too tech savy when it comes to hardware. This thread will be a big help when I actually build it, but first I'd like some help selecting decent, compatible components.

It would be used for a lot of basic things, browsing, work and school assignments, etc. Also, I'd like to be able to run most games on higher settings. I'm not talking maxing out Crysis 2, but something that's easy on the eyes haha. My internet speed is 20 up, 20 down, not sure if that makes any difference. Like I said, not too hardware savvy :P

I don't really have a price range, but I'd prefer to spend less than $800 if possible, but if I go over it's not a huge deal. I've got a monitor and all of the other miscellaneous things, so don't worry about that. Any and all help would be appreciated!

$800 for a computer build? EASY. Give me some time, and i'll link it in this thread.

Here's that computer build I promised you.

The reason why I went with an AMD card is because that motherboard is only CrossfireX compatible. Which means that it can only do DUAL AMD cards. It can use Nvidia cards, just dual Nvidia cards.

KEEP IN MIND that computers fluctuate almost daily. So buy these parts whenever you see them for a good deal.

This build will be able to play any game to date. Happy gaming.

Thank you very much! I appreciate it, I'm pretty much clueless when it comes to this. It all looks good, now I've just got to keep saving up. Must... resist... temptation to buy Darksiders II. Ah, well. I can already imagine playing on this thing, it's been long overdue.

Thank you again.

I can't view your cart.

Oh, and I just realized I could save another $90 or so by getting the OS through... other means. *mischievous face*

Maybe that can go toward a sound card. Eh, I've got time to think about it. I won't have the money for a few weeks, at the least.

A sound card is NOT necessary AT ALL. The motherboard has audio built in.

Also, which the $90 that you save...if you do...that (i'd recommend that you don't), put that money towards a better graphics card.
