Trust me. You want a mechanical keyboard. After using my mechanical keyboard for so long during the summer, I went back to school and could barely stand typing on their keyboards because I preferred my mechanical one so much more.
G13s aren't mechanical
Also, while mechanical keyboards are great and all, I don't think a whole lotta people are going to want to drop 150 bucks on a peripheral that does the same job at 3 dollars, the sensation is different, but unless you absolutely wanted the best kind of keyboards money can buy, a lot of people can probably wait. Besides, in gaming, there's not a whole lot of difference from rubber dome, gamers are going to bottom the keys out a lot and it's not going to have a large impact on typing unless you get tactile switches anyway, and those aren't recommended for gaming. Not to mention, a lot of people who purchase tactile switch don't even know they're not supposed to bottom out the keys, so it becomes useless. Really, it's just preference, want it or not, whatever, but for gaming, buying a mechanical keyboard really doesn't make a whole lot of sense.
The point of a keyboard is that it's one of the main interfaces between you and your computer. So that means you're going to be using it a lot. Mechanical keyboards offer that kind of reliability to last for years and years without issue where a membrane keyboard would start to wear out. They're sturdy, will improve your typing, and the keys will last you for years or even decades to come.
Mechanical keyboards are fine for gaming too, even the tactile click ones. It'll feel weird at first, sure, but you'll eventually get used to it. I myself have a keyboard with Cherry MX Blues, and I can play games just fine. It actually makes more sense to get a mechanical keyboard for gaming since you'll be doing some heavy duty keystrokes on your keyboard. Not only that, but mechanical keyboards also offer NKRO, which is undoubtedly helpful for gaming.
If you're planning to spend a lot of time at your computer, a mechanical keyboard is a great investment that will last you through multiple builds and mild abuse.
