Trust me. You want a mechanical keyboard. After using my mechanical keyboard for so long during the summer, I went back to school and could barely stand typing on their keyboards because I preferred my mechanical one so much more.

G13s aren't mechanical

Also, while mechanical keyboards are great and all, I don't think a whole lotta people are going to want to drop 150 bucks on a peripheral that does the same job at 3 dollars, the sensation is different, but unless you absolutely wanted the best kind of keyboards money can buy, a lot of people can probably wait. Besides, in gaming, there's not a whole lot of difference from rubber dome, gamers are going to bottom the keys out a lot and it's not going to have a large impact on typing unless you get tactile switches anyway, and those aren't recommended for gaming. Not to mention, a lot of people who purchase tactile switch don't even know they're not supposed to bottom out the keys, so it becomes useless. Really, it's just preference, want it or not, whatever, but for gaming, buying a mechanical keyboard really doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

I still have my 5-year old generic branded USB keyboard.

Still works but the lettering is worn out but I touch-type anyway.

After this Razer Blackwidow BF3 I definitely would not like regular key boards. It has Cherry MX Blue switches ;)

Noice.

But a keyboard costing that much would make a very noticeable dent in my budget. A keyboard is a later purchase.

As for mice, I settled for a Logitech G400. Anything's better than my current (and crappy) Logitech laser mouse.

I know G13s aren't mechanical. I probably worded that wrong.

And yes, it's not necessary but I think it's really nice to have, and there are cheaper mechanical keyboards you can get.

And I'm curious, why did you choose the H80 which is quite a step down from the H100 with minimal cost, Corsair RAM when G.Skill has a lifetime warranty, and Crucial when the Samsung has a read speed of 500 mB/s?
The H80 and H100 are both noisy as hell, so giving some thought to replacing the fans on it is worth doing. The NZXT Performance 120mm fans aren't a bad bet. They're not as good at cooling, but they are quite a bit quieter.

Unless you're planning on overclocking heavily, acoustics take a serious priority over temperatures.

Otherwise, I'd tend to agree Samsung make some of the best SSDs money can buy, and the 650D is a better case than the HAF X (though you may want to put some thought into changing the fans).

The point of a keyboard is that it's one of the main interfaces between you and your computer. So that means you're going to be using it a lot. Mechanical keyboards offer that kind of reliability to last for years and years without issue where a membrane keyboard would start to wear out. They're sturdy, will improve your typing, and the keys will last you for years or even decades to come.

Mechanical keyboards are fine for gaming too, even the tactile click ones. It'll feel weird at first, sure, but you'll eventually get used to it. I myself have a keyboard with Cherry MX Blues, and I can play games just fine. It actually makes more sense to get a mechanical keyboard for gaming since you'll be doing some heavy duty keystrokes on your keyboard. Not only that, but mechanical keyboards also offer NKRO, which is undoubtedly helpful for gaming.

If you're planning to spend a lot of time at your computer, a mechanical keyboard is a great investment that will last you through multiple builds and mild abuse.

I have a mechanical with MX Blues, my advice is not to bundle in a mech keyboard with a build if you want to save money, keep it on hold as a later investment probably.

Since I'm planning to have a boot SSD. Where should I install the graphics, chipset and other miscellaneous drivers? The SSD or my storage drive?

What do you think?

Hardware drivers work better the faster they can retrieve information. You don't want to wait 5 seconds to open your graphics control centre.

I finally got around to re installing my USB 3.0 drivers. Still, no results. None of my devices seem to work in the USB 3.0 ports, but the 2.0 ports work perfectly.

I have a Gigabyte X79-UD5 mobo. Any ideas?

I haven't got any USB 3.0 devices, but my 2.0 ones work with the 3.0, and my motherboard is a Gigabyte too.

I don't know what the problem is, maybe you can go on Google to see if other users of your motherboard share the same issue.

  • 08.27.2012 5:48 AM PDT

Google didn't shoot back any results. :/

I checked the BIOS. The USB 3.0 ports are definitely enabled.

Interesting development.
The eSATA/USB 3.0 port works, but the other USB 3.0 ports don't work.

So you restarted?

Try going on a computer hardware forum. Maybe those guys will know something.

What's not working, the USB3 ports on the front of your case or the ones on the motherboard itself?

The SSD, of course.

Actually, I'd put the actual downloads on the storage drive and install them from there.

The 570 is better than both of those cards.

Thanks I'd been leaning towards it. I have a i5 2320 and 8GB RAM, overall will it make a decent setup for gaming? First time doing it so I don't know what to expect.
