Who the hell do you think I am?

Uhhhhh, what?

I'm not saying buying overkill or expensive hardware is a bad thing, I just wish that when people are planning to buy a computer and maybe build one, that they would actually do a little research for themselves instead of just saying "I want it to run BF3 at max settings."

Because there's a whole lot more to it than that.

Well yes, but it's not as easy as telling someone, "Go research it yourself."

They don't have the knowledge to. They don't know what to look for. They don't know which part is better.

I found out o actually might be able to fit it into my budget, I'm super happy.
The 670? Nice! :D

You should send me your build when you order it, I'd love to see it.
What 670 do you recommend?

Also, an i5 won't really hold much back.
The one I got

Works perfectly, EVGA is a very reliable brand, and it's the overclock edition.
I was thinkng about that one, but ive heard good things about the Gigabyte version, hows that one?
They're not as good, but sometimes they're cheaper.

So I would just go with EVGA. Or ASUS if you want, they're good too.

Ultra or max

:O

Was expecting the CPU to hold it back. Thanks.
The 7850 is a card to be reckoned with.

Let me put it this way:

Assuming that your father doesn't work on computers, and knows nothing about them, and he wants to get into PC gaming. He wants your help on what to get, and you tell him to "Find the parts yourself."

Now, do you think he will be able to get the best parts for his money? No, because he's going in blindly.

That's what you're telling people to do.

I think Gigabyte would be a better choice as it has a non-reference cooler and should be much quieter and cooler than the reference.

If you're looking at cooling, you could get the ASUS Direct CUII. I don't know how much more expensive it is, and it's a huge card.

Never mind, gotta go work.

Also, salty, you wanna get on Xbox?
I'm not sure. Speccy doesn't record GPU temps, and that's the only program I use to monitor it so I haven't kept record. I'm pretty sure MSI Afterburner keeps a track of your GPU temps but I don't have it open much. But I've never had a problem with the 670 yet, so I don't think they're bad.

And after dinner I'll get on. Oh, okay. Message me whenever you want to play.

Would a 650W 80+ Bronze be enough for any non-SLI setup? Such as 660ti and possibly any future mid-range cards (or a 670). Debating about whether a Corsair 650M or 750M is better...there's only a $20 difference, but I don't want to waste it if I will literally never use it.

Also thinking of getting Sandisk 120GB SSD since they are super cheap at the moment and have great reviews. Corsair 500R case, Seagate 7200RPM 64MB 1TB HDD, Crucial/Corsair/G.Skill 8GB RAM, and ASUS P8Z77 mobo.

Can anyone recommend a good ASUS P8Z77 mobo though? There's like a bunch of levels in the series and I dunno which is really better. They all have the WiFi (which I just found out) so that's awesome, but can I just get the cheapest most basic one? :|

The most "basic" ASUS Z77 motherboard with Wi-Fi is the P8Z77-V. Otherwise, the P8Z77-V LK and LX are the more basic ASUS Z77 boards.

650W would be sufficient for your needs.

  • 08.27.2012 3:28 PM PDT

Who the hell do you think I am?

Yes, 650W is plenty. And if you're getting a 660ti now and you're planning to get a 670 later on, just get the 670. It's not worth spending the extra $400.

The rest looks great, although I don't know too much about motherboards, so I'm afraid I cant help you there. But I know the Z77 boards are great.

Yeah, all those Asus boards have it. YouTube the newegg video for it. It's very informative. I was actually going to get a wireless adapter and I happened to watch the video and found out it's included in the motherboard. So awesome :)

The 690 is ginormous, so it takes longer for voltages to pass through it, and there's just too many cores for it to run well. Basically, bigger does not always = better.

For graphics cards, it DOES mean better

Electricity is a current, it doesn't have intermittent delays, so what are you talking about

Chipsets have no visible performance impact outside of overclocking

It wouldn't make a difference if you were to use the same processor on it

You don't need super fancy hardware to play it.

At lowest settings. The only reason I usually use BF3 as a benchmark is because I know how a lot of cards will play it.

The whole point of this thread is to help

What's the use of this if we're going to tell everyone that comes in here to "Google it"

Research by self is important, but we're here to answer questions, we're providing guidelines and information, we only tell people to try another source if we don't have the answer.

No, not at lowest settings. A lot of cards WILL play it on ultra pretty smoothly, BF3 is a very well optimized game. You can see that it also has competent graphics on the console version, DICE aren't in it to make their game the hardest to run, they make it look as good as possible, and that is the difference between a developer like Crytek and DICE.

Like CPUs, more cores or hyperthreading are for different tasks, you might need more cores than speed for video processing, but for GPUs, it's either graphics cards for gaming, and graphics cards for 3D rendering (AMD Firestream, nVidia Quadro), and trust me, nothing that says HD or GTX in front of it will ever be for those tasks, they're specifically designed for gaming.
