The average high end mechanical is ~$150, so $50 is a steal.
Go for it, it's an unbeatable bargain.

Concerning mechanical keyboards, has anyone here have any experience with the Black switches?

  • 10.04.2012 6:32 PM PDT

Who the hell do you think I am?

I wonder if my parents would want that keyboard.

I've never used those, but I use the brown switches. I haven't used any other type of mechanical switches though, so I can't compare them but the browns are great.

I use them. What questions do you have?

Speaking of keyboards, this is a neat custom paint job

I got these cheeseburgers man....

While we're on the topic of keyboards, is there anything epecial about using a PS/2 port over a USB for a keyboard?

NKRO vs 6KRO. On mechanicals with a PS/2 port, you can press all 104 keys and they all register instantly, whether it be on a word document or in an RTS game. USB only has NKRO for one Cooler Master keyboard as far as I know. All others are 6KRO.

If I'm remembering correctly, the PS/2 connection allows more simultaneous key presses, or something like that.

Ah, ok. Do most motherboards ship with PS/2 ports?

No. PS/2 ports are actually a pretty old connector. A USB keyboard will work just as well, if not better.

Also, the PS/2 port connectors have pins. It can be a pain in the ass to unbend them if it gets pulled out on a bad angle.

EDIT: I'm talking about cheap $20 keyboards. Don't know much about mechanicals.

The one I use came a USB to PS/2 adapter, so you would probably want something like that.

And yeah Splatter, most do.

Actually....I just remembered....I have quite a few spare PS/2 keyboards lying around....they're really old though....but they should do the trick.

Me too, they're all from old Dells my family has had over the years. I'll probably just use those for a while, because if they still work after almost 10 years, then I don't see why they shouldn't keep working.

Check out this kickass case. This kickass case is pretty kickass. This is the kickass case that I've been looking for, and for only $90? That's pretty kickass. I dare someone to find me something not-kickass about this kickass case. I mean seriously.

Better kickass case.

Using that case in my build. Such a nice case with some neat features.

IMO that case would look awesome if it had a clear side panel.

I REALLY want that Corsair Obsidian 650D (pretty sure that's what's called). $250 of sheek sexiness. I think we can all agree on that.

Goddamn guys, if you're spending over 100 dollars on a case you're probably doing it wrong.

See, this kickass case is almost like the Corsair Obsidian 650D, another kickass case that's not so kickass because it's expensive as -blam!-.

Only thing that's not-so-kickass about this kickass case is that 4 of the 5 fans it comes with are molex plugged. So when I buy it I need to buy a couple more molex to 6 pin converters. >_<

Personally I don't like that case....just not what I'm into.

Spend some money on a great case now that you really love and will use for awhile....

Also, that Thermaltake case gives me TONS of room to upgrade.

Mostly on comfort and noise. I heard it requires more pressure to depress than the Blues, Browns and the Reds.

How do I boot off a CD? Apparently the boot priority is set to favour the SSD/HDD. I burnt a Ubuntu ISO into a CD-R.

Change boot order in BIOS.

As for Cherry MX Black switches, they have the highest actuation force out of all mechanical switches. They're also linear switches as well, just like Reds. Blues and Browns are tactile click.

I would love this case for a future build.

This is my current case. I love it, it has so much room.
