Who the hell do you think I am?

Oh yeah, I know they make the CPUs, I just didn't know if they designed anything else on the motherboards made for their CPUs either.

Well I'd assume they design the sockets, too, just not manufacture them. :P

How good are Seagate HDDs?
Less reliable than WD, but $20 less.

Not too much. Pretty close, I'd say.

Installing Windows right now, should I partition my SSD (that I want to put my OS on), and if so how large of a size?

No, you probably shouldn't... do you have another drive? And how big is the SSD?

  • 10.06.2012 8:50 PM PDT

Already partitioned it. I have a 2TB HDD and my SSD is 128GB (got it for the OS really). I partitioned it as I was following along with Newegg's video.

  • 10.06.2012 8:53 PM PDT

122GB I believe.

Perhaps you can help me understand this stuff, I'm going to update my drivers, however I'm not sure what to look for. Suggestions?

Oh, so you only created one partition, right? (the entire capacity of the SSD, that is)

And as for the drivers, the main ones you'll want are the USB 3.0 driver (I don't know whether Intel or ASMedia, you should use the disc which came with the board, it should have the right one), SATA3 driver, Broadcom LAN driver, Realtek high definition audio driver, and the Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver.
You'll probably want the VGA driver, too, in case you ever need to use the on-board graphics for whatever reason.

Yeah I would use the CD, but not only is it out of date, but I've heard ASRock likes to bundle a bunch of crap with it. So do I need anything for the chipset?

And yes, only one partition.

It doesn't really matter how old a driver is unless it has some major problem. If the disc was shipped with the board, the drivers should be good to use. Pretty much all manufacturers bundle different utilities with the driver software, but I'm quite sure you'll be able to install the drivers on their own.
And yes, usually there is a chipset driver of some sort, but I'm not sure which it is, or if there even is one.

EDIT: Oh, the chipset driver was right in front of me! It's the INF driver :)

It's a dangerous business, going out your door. You step onto the road, and if you don't keep your feet, there's no telling where you might be swept off to.

Thanks for the advice on my last post. =)

Do you think it would be worth upgrading to the 670 rather than getting the 660 Ti? It would be about $50 more from what I have been seeing. Is that extra bit of performance worth it?

Yes, the 670 can max out any game with 60+ FPS...so I believe.

Basically yes, it's worth the upgrade.

Yeah, never do the download all option on the driver disc. A lot of crap is on there... On the ASRock page, just download all the drivers in the "Driver" list.

I say go for an overclocked version of the 670. I have an EVGA 670 FTW, which basically has the same specs as a stock 680.

NOT a good idea. A lot of manufacturers put up incorrect drivers on their sites. You can screw your PC if you're not careful. For example, the page he's looking at has 2 different USB 3.0 drivers. Installing both is a bad idea. :P

Well that's what I did for my brother's computer, but he has a slightly different motherboard, and you could be right, so whatever you say.

Trust me, it's not uncommon for them to link the wrong driver to a product. XD

So which LAN, the one under Utilities or the one under Drivers?

I agree with Salty; the CD drivers are grossly outdated, and I have had absolutely zero problems with over thirty PC's all updated with ASUS and AsRock's drivers on their official pages. Be sure to update the BIOS as well, since that will be outdated.

I was wondering if my i5 2400 @3.10 GHZ and an ASRock Z68 Pro Gen3 PCIE 2.0 mobo bottleneck a 660ti (PCIE 3.0 GPU) I am considering buying?

I'm upgrading my GPU from a 560 non ti in hope that I will be able to run games like borderlands 2 and Battlefield 3 better.

I was wondering if the rest of my system will be a bottleneck.
