This is never going to die, is it?

  • 10.07.2012 12:54 PM PDT

It's a dangerous business, going out your door. You step onto the road, and if you don't keep your feet, there's no telling where you might be swept off to.

How much money do you think I could save if I waited to buy the components until Summer 2013? I am not familiar with how computer component prices fluctuate so I really have no idea about what to expect.

-blam!-, -blam!-, -blam!-. I was turning on my computer to install drivers, my dog came behind my desktop and unplugged the main PSU power cord during the boot-up. I was having some power fluctuations in which it would power on briefly, and then turn off immediately afterward. I got it to stay on now, however my $450 video card is not displaying anything on HDMI. Suggestions? The video card's fans are spinning so I know its getting power.

Did you check to make sure he didn't unplug anything else?

  • 10.07.2012 4:19 PM PDT

Like power wise? Other than the main power plug she shouldn't have been able to unplug anything at all. In addition I'm unable to get any signal from the motherboard video card. So frustrating.

I know it sounds too simple, but try taking out the video card, waiting thirty seconds and then putting it back in.

Its currently sitting on my case. Dr Debug (ASRock Z77 Extreme4) is giving me a "no console output devices detected" and then a "no console input devices detected".

Not having any background knowledge of your situation, is your monitor still set to HDMI? Are there any other monitors connected to the card?

  • 10.07.2012 4:35 PM PDT

I tried DVI and that didn't work either. I'm getting ready to try another monitor however.

You wouldn't happen to have a case speaker plugged in, would you? If yes, did you check the beep(s) against the motherboard manual?

  • 10.07.2012 4:43 PM PDT

I have Dr. Debug, it displays an LED error code, which in this case is D6 or D7 (it alternates between them). Looking at the manual for those error codes tells me "no console input detected" and "no console output detected" respectively for those error codes.

I'm going to see if I can try using my video card in a mate's computer to see if the issue is the GPU or the motherboard (as I suspect). I really, really hope I don't have to RMA the thing after putting it in my case and successfully running and installing Windows 7.

Okay. The only real thing I can think of is that something is loose in your case. Have you checked all of the power connections throughout the computer?

After some quick searching it looks like the errors you're getting are for a keyboard.

Have you tried running the system with only these components:

CPU
HSF
MOBO
1 stick of RAM
PSU
Monitor

And seen if you could get a boot? Just making sure that you don't have anything extra plugged in like an HDD.

  • 10.07.2012 5:04 PM PDT

That wouldn't explain me not getting a display. Regardless I'll try it out.

Oh God. PMC I just tried doing that, now two of my case fans are not spinning, my front panel power button does not work, Dr. Debug is not functioning, and I can't even power the motherboard from the motherboard itself. I'm having to turn off and on the PSU.

Then it's most likely your mobo.

  • 10.07.2012 5:47 PM PDT

Evidently my motherboard power cable was slightly pulled out. Plugging it back in brought my back to where I was before. Still getting no console output and no display (both via the mobo video and the GPU video). This freaking sucks.

Just saying...but you should post your problem on some PC sites....like Tom's Hardware, for example.

Well, if you've got one loose connection, there might another as well. Have you also checked the supplemental power connection on the GPU and on the PSU (assuming modular PSU)?

  • 10.07.2012 6:22 PM PDT

Just unplugged everything and plugged it all back in. Still nothing (though I moved it to another outlet and now its giving me a no console input error. Ugh.

Were you able to try the GPU in another computer? Also, did you try connecting the keyboard to see if that resolved in the input error?

If it's not working on the mobo or GPU, try using every different cable you have on all the video ports available, and try a different monitor with different cables too.

I'll see if I can get a friend to let me place my GPU in there's. Probably going to take a couple days. As for the keyboard, evidently my keyboard briefly powers on and then turns off. So I'm wondering if when the power cord came out if it slightly pulled out the mobo power which resulted in unregulated wattage and perhaps even voltage. This may have effected the motherboard and caused the issues I'm having now (no display from either the mobo or the GPU, no power to my keyboard).

_______

As for your suggestion Salty, I tried all that to no avail. It's pretty much the mobo I'm sure, I just want to fix this rather than having to RMA it (meaning I'll have to get a new Windows 7 copy too. : (

The ASUS card could be clocked higher and better made, though.

By how much? If it's like, 50 MHz or something, it's not really going to make much of a difference
I overclocked a reference HD 7950 from 810 MHz (stock) to 910 MHz as well as increasing the memory clock from 1250 MHz to 1360 MHz.

Didn't notice a sharp increase in load temperatures, only varies between 1-3 Celsius.
